Title: Torque 4WD Dyno Day
Post by: RH9 on July 20, 2001, 09:14:52 PM
Hey all, is it true that the 4th of August will be the inaugural four wheel drive dyno day?

Gosh those poor evos and Sti's finally get to see how they compare to some of Nissans finest :)

See you there...hope Robins got his S__t into gear!

So, is this 4WD dyno day this saturday a go or not? I'm very keen to get my car on the dyno to see how it goes, anyone else keen to go?

i would be keen to go if it was a rear wheel day :)

maybe hes got time to dyno tune his customers now that
hes stopped playing with his new dyno!

why tune one customer when you can tune lots on dyno day

Yep Andy, I would love to see wot ur car gets. It did really well at the drags. I am not too sure if i could make it on Saturday, tho. So Robin has eventually got the 4wd dyno setup, huh?:)

The way I look at it I am going to show with my GTST and see what we see. How many times in the past has Performance Car mag said it would be the 4WD dyno day and it is a non-event because of one reason or another. It is just one of those things.

I believe we will see simular numbers as we have always. Figure most of the Evo's mildly tuned to run @ 175kw - 190kw. Subbies will probably be 15-20 kw lower. The normal VR4's (pre 96 models ) should be in the 135kw -150kw range depending on how far in the mods they went.

Considering a Skyline is quite a bit heavier then the above mentioned and the GTS4's are running in the high 13's with tuning the same the power ratios should be the same or slightly lower but lets wait and see.

I was round at TP last Friday (27th) and the extra set of rollers were in place, they looked to be still putting the finishing touches to them. Maybe somebody could give TP a bell and see if they are going to be ready for this Saturday.

Surely a 2WD car could still do a dyno run; you just wouldn't use the second set of rollers??? Or am I missing something?
Title: Torque 4WD Dyno Day
Post by: Wraith on August 01, 2001, 10:31:26 AM
The second set of rollers were in place when the last dyno was run.

I believe that there was a problem with the hydrolics that move them backwards and forwards which caused it to be only a 2wd day last time.

What am I saying "only 2wd"... 2wd cars RULE!!!:dfinger:

Well either way if the 4WD is running or not, if the turn out for runs is low I am sure they will want the 2wd guys getting up because it is also about making a little dosh aye !

Tell us how many kws you get Andy. I won't be there as I get my new link next week. I thought I might build a carbon bonnet and wing instead.

Ok, rang up T/P this morning, and not to my surprise, they say their 4WD dyno won't be ready for this saturday yet.

However, they said it will DEFINITELY be ready for the next month's dyno day, guess have to wait till then.... bugger.

...bit of a dissapointment really about the TP day yet again.  I wasn't actually going to be there myself, but just reading this, and with me going through a similar situation of having my expectations being let down heavily by my alarm installation people, I am maybe a little more 'sensitive' to all of this sort of crap.  This sorta carry on surely can't be doing business any good.  Hopefully next month.

so it will just be a rear wheel day?

another sdu dyno day i thinks :)

so whos going?

I think if we are going to turn up with a lot of cars again we should arrange our own day at a discounted rate.
Club members have spent a few $$$$$$ at TP maybe we should expect something back:p

Just a thought.:jack:

i think the best idea would be to have dyno day at petes when someone gets of there butt and does the program :)

how much will it be tomorrow?

haha, me and fry was right, that 4wd will never take place:)

hey Evil Bunny,
there is no proper dyno at advanced imports, huh? I dont think the one they have is accurate enuff.
Title: Advanced's Dyno.
Post by: Lee on August 03, 2001, 08:26:24 AM
The Dyno at Advanced would be more then accurate enough if the software they are waiting on from TP ever gets finished.

Thats where they bought it from.
Title: Agree
Post by: SlowGTS-t on August 03, 2001, 08:39:12 AM
I agree completely. $50 for a dyno run where you roll on, gun it, roll off is er.. well very expensive.
Title: Torque 4WD Dyno Day
Post by: mrmeal on August 03, 2001, 09:27:17 AM
Lee you have a very valid point.... the last day we organised we really packed the place out .  It was also the only day I have been, I think that is because it was an SDU day.  Now having said that there were probably others in the same situation as me.  If we are going to make this day hugely popular then maybe we should be able to organise a cheaper SDU run.  If not then maybe the popularity would dribble off.  I had been keen on dyno'ing my car at several stages to see what some small mods were doing for performance (not expecting anything huge mind) but at $50 each singular run, it can be a little steep :-)

You can sort of understand a high cost if the dyno was being setup for one run any day of the week, but on a day where everyone rolls on, rolls off, chi-ching! it seems like a real money printing setup hehe.

Post by: BABY R on August 03, 2001, 10:50:30 AM
Yes man, good points Mrmeal and Lee. Me too reckons that the dyno day is way too expensive, approximately 2 minutes of hard core and the hard earned $50 bucks is gone.... with only a ****ty sheet of print out.

Perhaps just like Lee said, Robyn should have something in return for us, I definitely thinks he earned a huge amount of $$ just from our SDU club.

Perhaps a free dyno day for SDU??

Kenny>> The kit is still sitting nicely in my garage, I just want to get a Carbon Fibre wing blade thats all, not the entire wing.
Title: Torque 4WD Dyno Day
Post by: Lee on August 03, 2001, 01:11:43 PM
I can't see a free dyno day.

The guys in Wellington had a dyno day at $25.00 each.
This was using a dynapac unit which involves taking off the wheels & fitting adaptors to the hubs.
As showen on High Octane 2000 with the Vailside GTR.
A lot more work per run.

Post by: EVIL-BUNNY on August 03, 2001, 04:50:17 PM
i had my car booked in for the ecu to be set up and he never even dynoed it.

to busy working on his new dyno and looking at the big picture.

as long as hes paying the dyno off cant see any cheap dyno runs.

he has stuffed our main sponsor round for ages now i think we should do dyno deals else where.

 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Robin doesn't know me from a bar of soap, he's seen me at a couple of dyno days over the past year. A couple of weeks ago he helped me out with my car with bugger all notice and a cost of zip. He has my gratitude for that.

There are plenty of places with dynos - I've had runs on 4 different dynos. Until someone else starts opening up on a weekend and doing the same there won't be any competition. Thats what will lower the price, after all there is usually a healthy line of punters waiting their turn on Saturday mornings once a month at TP.

Robin is a nice guy  has anyone talked to him rather than whining about the price sure it is alittle expensive but it  still hasnt stopped large numbers attending. He has always bent over backwards to help me and alot of my freinds. So if you would like me to talk to him I will.;)

Hey All,

A special congrats to Liam and Rudy on improving your dyno records!!  Man how the hell does that RB20 make 222. KW.....it must be possessed by some Japanese demon lol.

Hopefully when some new hardware arrives at the end of the month for my car I can blast past 200 KW too!!

Strange how my peak power has gone from 194 KW @ 6050 rpm to 196 KW @ 7450 rpm, that has me baffled!

Thanks to Robin........he is a gentleman and a great guy to boot.
Wouldn't get runs at Turbo Vehicles for 50 bucks would you?

Regards,

Andy
