debs,

guess we're in da same position now.
my car won't be ready this sunday too.
when i sent my car to LINK chch to get da anti-lag software installed, they apparently delete da whole map.
so when my mechanic installed this evening, it fouled da plugs straight away, leaving only 2 cylinder workin :(
n my mechanic will b away tomoro n friday..
n also my lsd hasnt been installed yet.. so i don't see any point to race without lsd..
:(

Thats a shame Rudy, but oh well, i am sure your car will be as good as new when you get it back :D

I dont seem to be having much luck with my car lately, although Nissan Newmarket insisted that the car come in because it had used nearly 2ltrs of oil at 1000km...which is a lot....and it was smoking slightly.  They got somebody in yesterday to take out the whole engine and it is stripped in half... everything is out of the car...they have found that all my bearings are worn, all the valves are worn down to nothing.. apparently a couple of the Pistons have melted so bad they are nearly unrecogniseable and that is because of detonation....so really its not good....but it is going to get fixed and they are going to totally recondition my engine, everything will be new pretty much, so its gonna be like a new car in the end hopefully!!   :)   I havent driven my car though...in...one week so far.....OMG....I am starting to get withdrawls!!!!!

I would Rhys but only having about 400kms currently on the new ceramic paddle clutch is not enough, so unless I can put another 500 kms by Sunday I will not be running though I will be there.

We will line up mate trust me :jack: The old girl has a very low 14 possibly high 13 in her right now.

i am gonna be there on sunday. Already a GT startlet dude challenged me this morning! Will the track be prepared this time?
and does anyone know a place to buy racing fuel 4 a decent price?

Deb, Vince,
R we meeting at the BP around 7.30?

Yeah i will line up against u dude

Should be interesting!!!!
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: Brenhan on September 20, 2001, 11:33:27 AM
the track wont be prepared because of the $300 to apply it. I am going to take the initiative to show off my tractor driving skills and use the sweeper on the front of the tractor to sweep the concrete area of the track before any racing . sweeping the track helped alot at the last meeting. Racegas is available from Challenge Manukau Road in Pukekohe , although you cant put it in the tank, you have to put in your own container , I think it is about $1.50 a litre but havent checked recently.
Brenhan.
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: kennydead on September 20, 2001, 11:43:48 AM
why cant u put it in ur tank? cant mix them with normal fuel?
sorry, i am dum
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: SlowGTS-t on September 20, 2001, 01:41:43 PM
Same with avgas. Its the law. Cant use it on the street.

I might drop by on Sunday depending on how I feel. Probably wont run though.
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: Lee on September 20, 2001, 03:02:16 PM
Its illegal to use race fuel or aviation fuel on the street.
(And we wouldn't want to do anything illegal would we???);)

They will not sell it to you if you are going to put it straight into the tank. (They can lose their ability to sell it.)

Take a container for them to fill. It mixes fine with ordinary fuel & ups the octaine rating.
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: kennydead on September 20, 2001, 03:07:19 PM
ar..........would they stop u open up ur fuel cap, and taste wat kinda fuel in it?

:D
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: Brenhan on September 20, 2001, 03:12:24 PM
no they would look at the colour of the exhaust , a nice light grey colour instead of black and the oh so sweet smell of avgas / racegas is hard to miss.
Brenhan.
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: kennydead on September 20, 2001, 03:38:33 PM
so, that mean, if u use it in the race, u will have to finish them before u leave the track?

Howabout 7.30 am at the solar powered BP (just passed the Papakura turnoff).

Car is farked!! Protecta have decided not to pay out on it.....I had to pay $1000 to get my car out of Nissan Newmarket as they had stripped it down...had to get a towie in to take it out of there... but the towie couldnt tow it cause Nissan had taken out all the suspension arms and everything....they are putting the suspension back in tonight for towage tomorrow....damn stupid...I will never ever go to Nissan Newmarket again, they charge so much! and Protecta...well they have voided my warranty so they can go jump as well!!!...not been a very good week at all        :(
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: Brenhan on September 20, 2001, 04:41:20 PM
Kenny not many people pay too much attention to it , the gas stations cant put it in your car but they will allow you to get it and do what you want with it , it is highly unlikely that anyone other than an enthusiast would know the difference , you wont have any problems running it on the road but I guess it is the same with exceeding the speed limit , if you dont get caught then there is no proof that it happened . it isnt good to use it long term because it will damage the oxygen sensor in the exhaust and therefore use more gas when cruising but 20 litres in a tankfull once every 2-3 months will not shorten the life of the sensor too much.

Bummer about the car Debbie , what was the reason it was sent in there?
Brenhan.

hi Brenhan,

i couldnt find challenge manukau rd, Pukakohe in the phone book. I was looking all day for avgas, so far unseccessful. But we did a beatiful stripper job on the skyline tonite. (GTst RS light weight spec)
I tried launching around 0.8 Bar with 225's at the back, still got no where.

Sorry about ur car Deb, Nissan New market is hopeless. They cant even fix a suspesnsion arm properly.
Well see u guys at the BP then!

Getting a good launch with a GTS-t is an art, not to mention surface conditions help. What ever you think you can launch at away from the track it all changes there due to the unpredicability of the track conditions.

Well I am off to Ragland today to watch the rally with a few guys, and should be able to pack on a few Km's but not sure if I will do 400+ kms still in the next two days but will give it a go. The first 450 have been all city driving with heaps in stop and go traffic so maybe there is hope. If not well looks like the night drags is were I will make my qualifiying passes.

Debs I feel for you I really do. Though I did not get any mechanical insurance because I knew I was going to modify my car, it still has cost me heaps over the last year and half due to 3 gearboxes dying a rather nasty death. Hopefully you will be able to sort it out.

C U at the BP.

Challenge in Pukekohe trades as Racecourse motors , the phone number is 09 238 7118 , they are at 214 Manukau Road (the road that the racetrack is on) . I think what Shane ment by beat you is that his car has been off the road for the longest , 4 years. Shanes car would easily beat Zapf , his car will soon be faster than my GTR .

Ooooh Deb that's bloody awful! Now what?? :( What slimy trick did they pull to void your warranty? - we've had that happen with two cars, that the warranty company refused to pay up for sticky reasons   That's a big reason why I just didn't bother with this one......

Well dont be disappointed Fry, i am there:)

Yep Vince, i totally agree with u about the **** traction conditions. The car is so light, maybe around 1200kgs. I gave a 18psi launch today, too much wheel spinning, even on 3rd gear. Then i reduced my tyre pressure to 25psi, and it sort of took off better. Maybe i will reduce to 20 psi at the drags.

Brenhan, thz very much. I ended up buying Avgas from Shell Bruce Mclaren rd in Henderson, was too expensive, but i had no choice, $53.95 for 20 litres.
Title: drags on sunday

Well I am still a bit buggered due to all the numours hills, fences, creeks, and running we did to get deeper into the stages to get great view points without the crowds, but was so worth it! We got right up to the action so close in fact at one point I even got sprayed with rocks haha cool aye! GSR got some great footage. We are not sure ont he sound quality due to the bloody wind but we were so close I could see the dirvers eyes.

400 kms was not a prob. As a matter of act I have put on nearly 500ks with heaps of shifting on the tight twisty roads. So I might give ya a go Fry.

Power hunger if I read your post right were you running 18 psi of boost? If so I hope you have bigger injectors with an a chipped ecu or aftermarket ecu. It would be a pitty to see you pop your motor mate.
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: GTcrazy on September 22, 2001, 04:24:41 PM
Vince,
well we r not gonna run 18psi at the drags, may be 1bar. and yeah powers car gotta chip but no after market injectors but we were doin ok at the last drags. prolly line up against u and fry for a close battle.
c ya all there and hoping 4 great wether...
watch out 4 a stripped GTSt 4 door with a GTR intercooler
and vince, any mods after last drags?

c ya all at the BP 7.30

and Debby ,
i had the same problem with Protecta abt 6 months ago when two of the pistons got melted and got the problem sorted but it took $1800 of my valuable money and all they supplied was another engine and i found them to be a** ****s.

so what will be u r next step?
try to negotiate some kinda deal with them like i did.
if u wanna know more abt it meet me at the drags tomm
good luck
Title: drags on sunday

18 psi as trying to set the boost controller:) Not all day, everyday!
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: RazorGTR on September 23, 2001, 04:20:43 AM
Just a couple mate but doubt it will help me go any faster. As a matter of fact I have not really driven the car to it's full due to the new clutch but have put in a Trust Type R blow off valve and Nismo fuel regulator when I did the clutch.

The car is running richer as we can smell it so may wind the boost up more on the new bleed valve but have to wait and see how things progress.
Title: woooohooooo!

And a great day was had by all. Well, by all I talked to anyway. Especially Vince, who will be framing his 13.884 time slip and keeping it by his bed, I'm sure. :p Way to go dude. :jack:

I'm sunburnt as hell - my face feels like it's going to crack open - but it was definitely worth it. That was the first time I've seen the Croydon car race in the steel, as it were, and DAMN! That thing's hella-fast.  Ronnie Lim's Integra was fairly on the scary side too.

Skylines had it simply by force of numbers though :king:

hey I hope everyone had a good day , if anyone has any good or bad feedback of how it ran can you let us know about it either in this thread or by email . my face is glowing bright red now with the sunburn . as it was the first proper Idrag meet I think it went reasonably well, with a few cases of cars being in the wrong classes and other small hicups . if this is a sign of things to come then import drag racing is about to move to the next level in NZ. Well done Vince for doing a 13.8 and well done to Rhys for not breaking anything. I cant wait to get my car going again , I will probably have forgotten how to drive it when I get it going.
Brenhan.
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: RazorGTR on September 23, 2001, 05:44:22 PM
Cheers guys, as you can imagine I am totally rapt !!!! I was shooting for a low 14 sec pass and got that on my first run. a 14.144 . Yes Raf that time slip is going on the wall until I beat it for sure :D

It was a great day to say the least. There were a lot of personal bests run and heaps of smiling faces and some sour ones.

Fry man super congrats on shaving 1.4 secs off of your previous best mate. The car is running awesome. We had some great runs and that last one is a shocker. (.008 of a sec ) was the difference at the finish. As we looked at each other neither of knew who won. Now that is bloody close racing.

Kenny you animal 15.4 congrats mate.

Croydon's beast ran a best of 10.58 @ 137mph. Unfortuneately the clutch went so nothing major as they have a brand new one back at the shop ready to go in.

Ronnie Lim had traction problems which kept him out of the 10's but did manage to get into the low 11's with some very good top end charges over the 120mph barrier.

On another personal note I did beat an Evo 6, it was stock standard, but hell I had to drive around him. My top end charges were awesome with every single run over the 102mph mark. My 13.884 @ 104.20 was my second best top end speed. I kept hitting the speed cut before the finish line which may have kept me out of the 106-107mph range and possibly a 13.6 time. The old girl is running great. Not too bad for having a factory ecu and injectors, 13.5 psi of boost, tyres at normal driving pressure of 35psi, and for the record I kept my car's interior in. All seats and even the spare tyre. The track was holding up pretty good for not being prepped and am looking forward to the night speed drags to better my time with cooler air.

Cheers to all the SDU members that showed in support by not only running but there in numbers in the stands. We out numbered every car club heaps again!

Power hungry sorry to hear about your turbo mate. Now as you told me is a good time to look to do the upgrade. Just dont over boost and hurt the motor mate.

I really thought the variety of cars there today was awesome. Everything from Civics through to WRX's. Sleeper of the day was a black Misti wagon (Vr4 drive train?) I've never seen a wagon go so well!

Vince vs. Fryline was a highlight - you guys were going hard out run after run.

Oh yeah - Pat's burnout, class!

was a great day and i finally had my first ever drag racing, it was so much fun.:) congrets to vince for his awesome 1/4 time today, i have not seen or heard any gts-t doing a such low time, good on u mate.:king: em, my best time today was 15.3 on my gts25 non turbo. the car dynoed @110kw on wheel at t/p performance. so 15.3 a reasonable time? i was actually hoping a flat 15 or higher 14, considering the power the car got. the dyno was done 3 months ago though, might need a retune or something eh? what do you guys reckon?

Congrats to Vince and Rhys for setting personal bests and to Mark (Vspec) hope its nothing tooo major.

yeap, awesome day ay, although my car only running best time 15.5 but i had fun and it improved from lasttime. so its good i guess. congrats for those who had a good run after spending $$$ on the beast. awesome effort dude. this would be the last drag for the until it gets it new engine. then i will line up with u guys who beat me in the drag yesterday! u will be sorry!:dfinger:

ps. resetting ecu and advancing timing does make a different for a NA. but makesure, after restting ecu, the second u start to run the car again, makesure ur right foot is always touching the floor. i reset the ecu a few times, the biggest different made was yesterday, the first few runs were ****, but after the ecu learnded the new map, its quite noticible.

Well Fryman I think Kai is jealous or something. I can remember some of his grudge racing. Maybe because we were not in GTR's aye

As for us well it just does not get any better. As you say two evenly match cars. I used to look forward to running with GSR32 but since he has retired from racing it was just not the same. Now I have another good mate to have goes with.
Yea I know what you mean about waiting to do anymore upgrades for a while. I have spent a bit too much this year and now the next major upgrade will be prolly a year away. The only things left for me would be rear suspension and different wheels and tyres to try and queeze a couple of more tenths off. Maybe next time I will stip the car out and possibly be running a fryline bonnet for less weight up front. :D

Kenny you have me worried mate. I know what your plans are and damn mate it will be hard looking at the back end of ya car aye, but who knows I have now managed to beat out nearly all the 25t's times with my li'll 2 litre.

Rudy mate your car will be a major weapon. If you ever get that power down ...... bloody hell 12's for you mate.

SDU should look to get a multi club drag day going sometime in the near future with the toy speed, silvia club, and possibly Nizan. Only a thought.

Title: IDRAG's 23 September
Post by: V-Spec on September 24, 2001, 12:37:13 PM
As usual, I had a great time! V Spec wasn't quite right on the day with top end power falling off which got more noticeable as the day went on. As a consequence, I couldn't break 12 seconds on the day. Anyway, there's a lot of oil coming out of the blow off valves! V Spec remains parked in the garage until I get brave enough to take it into Advanced Imports for the verdict and repair bill$$$$!

:( bugger. Hella fast for a car that wasn't running properly though :)
Title: Interclub
Post by: kai on September 24, 2001, 01:12:57 PM
I like the idea of running an interclub points meeting with bracket racing. e.g. 1 second brackets  like 11.5-12.5, 12.6-13.5, 13.6-14.5, 14.6-15.5, 15.6-16.5, 16.6-17.5. Points would be awarded to the first say 4 cars in each bracket and then added up for an overall club score.

You'd run a qualifying session in the morning so that people could see which bracket they fit into. If you select the 12-13 bracket and run a 11.9 you blow out and lose. The brackets are run as an eliminator. This would means that any of the clubs could win the overall not just the one with the fastest cars e.g. SDU with 4 or 5 sub 12sec GTR's as the 16-17sec bracket is as important as the sub 12.

Just an idea but what does everyone think??? I know I could push a few of the car clubs Im in to get them along e.g. GGon, Silvia, Holden, Toyspeed, Nizan, 300zx and of course SDU....of course any other clubs would be welcome if the could get enuf cars for a team. I think club pride would come to the fore :)

opps ment to say yup Vince Im jealous of your GTS-t ;)

hehehe nah it was good seeing you 2 going hard and getting very carried away, neither could admit defeat.....well it made me smile anyway :)  ummm so who won it must have been close say 15 races -13??

Anyway congrads to Rob, Brenhan and all the others involved with iDrag it was a great day and I enjoyed myself....it was good catching up with a lot of people that I hadnt seen since last session. It was good to see Carolyn back on the track racing again even tho it wasnt with me....car just needs a lil work girl and you'll be back on the podium  :)

BTW I was a bit jealous Vince watching bites...racings better oh well my car should be ready early this week. Perhaps I might be a bit of competition for the famed V-spec(hope its nothing major Mark). Anyways you guys at iDrag got any jobs going??....I think Id like to get involved....I know that yank guy you had on the gates was a bit slow working out everyones change ;)

Ohh this soundz like a challange aye  Ok Drifter ya is on. The next interclub drags you and me mate. And to make things fair I will give you a head start k :jack:

Not sure why you couldn't run though unless you showed up past the 11:00 cut off time. which if you were that late then............

Kai yep was all good. Rhys and I did a best of 5 runs. What was cool was a Skyline took it  I did wind up on top this time, but in all fairness fry has had heaps of issues with his car over the past months and now that his car is running right there is a time frame of getting used to how it performs. Things may be different next time. Where I have had only gearbox dramas.

I like the time bracket break down Kai also. That would be perfect as it is about your car's performance and not how big your wallet is aye. Also keeps the 4wd guys lined up together, the turbo guys and such.

Now if we can get the Auckland Executives to get the ball rolling it may actually happen.

Hell mate huge congrats. I did not know.  It was almost all driver mate it really was. The track this time around was better though to in all fairness, but unless you could drive your car it would not have mattered.

I know you will be getting your times down with time again. This could be interesting as if you shave another .5 off, yourself, me, fry and a couple of others are going to be having our own grudge races aye :D

I believe there were a few of the 25t guys who have ran high 13's just for the life of me can not remember.  Should be cool Ben. Of course I will have my speed cut defecer by then and if I get a good launch with out going a tad side ways in second I should be able to get into the mid to low 13's.

Seems funny as I did say that if the clutch held up and got decent launches I should be in the low 14's to high 13's. I feel the old girl in current state of tune is capable of a 13.4. And running the night drags with the cool night air who knows aye :D
Title: Kai's idea
Post by: GraemeWi on September 24, 2001, 05:37:49 PM
I recon Kai's concept is a good one. Easy enough to run, could be done on a laptop in the pits. Each club has a person responsible for collecting details off time slips and entering them into the laptop. A simple setup with a vlookup and pivit table and there is a live results system.

Brenhan / Rob: I'm working on getting hold of a proper cash tray (like what you see in a till drawer) anything has to better than the tin!
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: Brenhan on September 24, 2001, 06:06:40 PM
I think the tin replacement idea is a good one , it gets pretty annoying and hectic when 5 cars roll up and no one has anything smaller than a $20 note . thanks for your help on the gate Graeme , I talked to Victor about selling the escort and he is not sure .
Brenhan.

Why the speed cut? If you're hitting the 180 speed cut, I think it's time you go against a GTR! :dfinger:
Title: drags on sunday
Post by: Brenhan on September 24, 2001, 07:58:42 PM
Vince I just remembered when SDU was travelling to a meremere last september and you were saying that the convoy was travelling too fast . you hit the speed limiter in the 1/4 mile but your indicated speed is 104-105 mph , 180ks is 112 mph , possibly with the auto to manual conversion on your car the speedo is inacurate , you can just cut wire 53 to get rid of the speed cut anyway , you should try to sweet talk ( you should be good at this ) Graeme from Croydons to try the mickey thompsons he has , they are on 300zx wheels so should just bolt on , that would have to lower your car to about a 1.6-1.7 60 ft and give you a mid to high 12 , your mph is similar to a GTR that is running high 12's . do it , be the first GTSt in nz to run in the 12's .
Brenhan.

Sounds like everyone had an awesome day! It was very unfortunate I couldnt make it but at this moment of time im in bed, had to go straight to the hospital for an operation, so of course Jon couldnt come down and have a go at racing, but there will be many other times.  Received my car back today on the back of a tow truck....I didnt think an engine could be broken down into so many pieces....car is an absoloute wreck....im in the process of taking Protecta to court no doubt...they arent going to get away with it for sure....Look out Fair Go here I come  :p

P.S  - I noticed a few people mentioned that they want to have a Drag day involved with a few other clubs?  Please feel free to drop me an email at vtec91@hotmail.com and we will see what we can do.

Post by: RazorGTR on September 24, 2001, 08:33:42 PM
Brenhan I know. I had the speedo checked against lazer radar a while back and was 5 kms off at 100. It must get worse the higher I go. I had already asked but since they have been in use it was a no go. Not to mention they are pretty rooted by Graemes burnouts lol

Ben I actually hit my 180 speed cut on my three best runs about 3-4 car lengths before the finish traps. This caused the car to cough and spit slowing my progress down rapidly. That new turbo I put in flows great for what it is.

I thought about cutting the wire but I am not into snipping wires and such to so I would rather just get the speed cut overide until I get the link put in. I then an flick it off to recover some of the cost.

hey vince,
since u sorted out ur turbo problem now, u might wanna dyno it again man, so ppl now can see how fast a skyline gtst could go with da power u have based on ur car.
so wotz wrong last time with da turbo ? remember, when u told me da ur turbo is not boostin as strong as before when we're in da last dyno day ?
Title: drags on sunday

I think I may Rudy. The last time believe it or not was the bleed valve system I made up. When I put the front moutn i/c on I changed from the one Advanced gave me when they put the bigger turbo on to this one to bleed less. Well I was getting a lot of wastegate creep thus causing the boosting problems.

I now have a turbo smart one on. That and with the Nismo fuel pressure regulator I have been able to get back up to 13.5 psi safely. Last time I dyno'ed it I could not get the boost to get over 11 psi and even at that it would only hit 11psi @ 5,800 rpm.

to4e front wheel with a steel shaft :D

comes on about 3500 and dies off about 7000
good for 18psi or so and around $1200 to get it done :)

very nice little mod

Actually this is a custom one ordered by Rob at War Motorsports. The compressor wheel is larger than the to4e and comes on at more like 3,850 and still creates boost to 7300. The A/R rating on the exhaust is slightly larger also. I have asked Rob but he is tight lipped about it and well never thought about pushing because I am so happy.

At the drags I was shifting at 7,100- 7,200 rpm. Any sooner and I only ran in the very low 14's. I tried different things on different runs to acheive what I got and launching at 3,900 rpm and just planting it seemed to be the best.
