prices are cheap as they are so it will be as set out, we can not offer discounts sorry, for a power run on a normal day you would pay per hour so about $150 so looking at it like that prices are cheap

Any idea if they have will be able to put knock sensors on?
I'd be keen but won't have a chance to re-tune first so don't really want to do it without knowing the car isn't going to explode.

Just curious, but how come those prices are so expensive? Is it because of the type of dyno is is? Are the 'rolling road' ones cheaper?

I'm organising an SSE dyno day in Dunedin for early August, and we are getting it half price, $40 ($50 to non members). Its a rolling road type dyno though.

Hub dyno's take longer to set the cars up and get them off which is why it's probably more expensive. The people running the dyno have to do more work. But they are more accurate then rolling road.

I have 4 spaces free in my car if anyone is keen to hitch a ride. Well technically its 3 spaces because the center seat in a coupe should have never been there. But yeah if you're keen all I request is a bit of funding for gas :p

Its not at night and we dont have a huuuge amount of cars all driving around or anything together. Even if you do get pulled up for a random check, I doubt they would screw you over as long as you didn't do anything wrong.

My R33 was pulled at 4800rpm due to running lean. Could you please mention that?

Not really fair result, based on the fact it'd probably be in the 200 margin had it gotten enough fuel.. (well, I think it was getting it, but hey, I'll get a second opinion and come back to you guys.)

Not sure whether to be disappointed or optimistic or a mixture of both with my result ... on the one hand I am disappointed/concerned as to why it was lean/detonating and could only run on "low" boost (still with a little detonation) to complete the run ... but on the other, 374wkw on 13psi ain't that shabby :licklips:

I have my suspicions as to what is wrong, will have to get out my detective's hat.

Great event and well executed

Nah he's jelly the gloria beated him :p and that's only temporary anyways if discussions we had come to fruition anyways.

Nick you'll find 200 is a bit optomistic considering the current work level of the engine, you'll more likely see 175-185 out of a stock 25t :)

Cheers to everyone who organised the day! It was so well run and just a great bunch of people to hangout with.

Im not too disappointed with my car and its only upwards from here after I sort out fuelling issues so I don't detonate by running any leaner.

Drive back was awesome with everyone and it was my first proper drive since upgrading to adjusties and Aaron those camber arms sure as hell made a difference man. The car has never felt so stable!

F*ck the people who put cones out across the road! Glad I spotted it first, although my fibreglass bumper is cheaper than your other guys ones (XXFR for example) thats for sure :p

Ha, awesome totally agree. If you put your car on the dyno for a public power run, make sure its sorted. And if it doesn't go your way on the day, take it like a man.
Also love how much the Z's dominated. I've had both Z's and and Skylines.. And I like them both alot! But I also know how many skyline/cef/laurel etc guys think Z's are gay, well suck on those numbers biatches! Your half backed skidda aint as hot as you thought ay. Its about time the Z's got the respect they deserve.

Theres only about a 100 kg in it. My twin turbo manual was 1470 kg with half a tank of gas with full leather interior, electric seats etc. It was 320rwkw on13 psi (Dyno power tauranga dyno) with only tickled factory turbos and moderate cams. I know I would go for the extra 100 kg with the extra 100rwkw any day. (do the maths haha! the tt Z's who were at the event do have the better power to weight ratio) They also have a much more rigid chassis than the r32. Most of the extra weight is due tougher drive train (r230 diffs are hugely more chunky than r200's). I

320rwkw nice power Phill, certainly well up on what you pulled at the dyno day last year with 271rwkw, what else have you done to it. kinda thought you might of popped down to have a look.

Any ways the dyno was all about power on the day, not power to weight and the Z's came out on top, like it or hate it, that's the way it is, give credit where it is due.

Naw I was more along the lines of 14.3~ which from what I've read is fairly lean for a turbo car.

I have a 2001 Nissan Elgrand van with a vq35de haha, its a beast of a van!! needed it to contract out of, plus should be handy for a few South Island camping adventures. Highly recommended to anyone who needs a practical well built, but decent handling grunty van!

Nah it's running on the leaner side, would be of more concern if the car was turbo, but with N/A they can seem to handle running a little leaner, (well mine has any way), My 25 has a very similar A/F ratio to yours. before I put the new fuel pump it had a A/F ratio of 15:1 (way to lean), so the new fuel pump has made a bit of difference.

It's Skylines vs Z's, i'd rather overheat a Skyline. I had a twin turbo manual 300zx leather interior, it was alright, not that quick though, mainly cus they are heavy things.

I know what you mean, but I tend to go down the road of: build and maintain your car properly and not overheat it at all.
Z's are heavier, but not that much heavier, and a factory one comes with alot of crap (mostly emissions gear) that skylines dont have and can be easily removed. They are also quite restricted from factory compared to skylines, which is again easy to remedy. They are a bit trickier to work on, so that puts alot of people off. I'm not saying that they are better, but that they deserve alot more respect than they tend to get. They are amazing cars, that unfortunately got cheap enough for alot of retards who had no idea what they were doing to buy and turn into rolling eyesores that broke down alot- due to no maintenence and and crappy mods, not due them being unreliable or ****ty cars.

Yea true man, I remember looking at the engine bay and thinking holy **** I can't even fit my fist in here. I'd say another reason they don't get a fair chance is that most are either auto turbo or manual n/a. Turbo manuals are hard to get, i got mine on 130,000ks for $500. But anyway pictures off the Dyno day look sweet and sounds like it was a good day, just a bit of a shame so many cars had little issues, nothing major though, something to remedy for next time.

The problem is that on the street it's pretty hard to tell if you have fuelling issues.
There are probably a huge number of modified cars driving around that are on the point of self destruction without the owners even knowing, as a lot of the time you aren't going to be able to hear the knock over exhaust etc.

Sweet power run, but a bit of a bugger you had to sell it :( just hope the new owner looks after it. Dunners aye, bet you been frezzing your arse off, anyways all the best with your studdies.

Yeah it was a shame, but thats life. Next fast car will be a R34 gtr or a 370z maybe even a r35 gtr if everything works out. That will all be a few years away though.
Hey cheers, study and everything is all going very well so far. It is alot colder down here, miss the mount! But the snow was kinda cool.

The problem is that on the street it's pretty hard to tell if you have fuelling issues.
There are probably a huge number of modified cars driving around that are on the point of self destruction without the owners even knowing, as a lot of the time you aren't going to be able to hear the knock over exhaust etc.

Agreed, never realised how close I was to damaging my engine. Before heading back to aucks I turned my boost down to 7psi again. Sooo paranoid now :/

On a side note, it's going to make bugger all difference, but his wideband was out of calibration, which would have caused things to read leaner than they were.
It was only 0.2 out in free air, but I don't know if that will be a linear scale once you head into lower AR's.

Me thinks a change in fuel to Gull may be in order. I picked up a bad batch of BP Ultimate from Drury as did Chevron that morning! I was expecting to crack 400kw but it was not to be. I couldn't run more than 20psi before detonation issues. I also note from the dyno plot the ratio used was 4.2 instead of 4.11?
Title: SDU Dyno Day 30/7/11
Post by: Stalk3r on August 02, 2011, 12:13:44 PM
i questioned the ratio thing as well, he said it was because he adjusted the ratios so that the target test speed matched in both the car and dyno and that the "final drive" printeed on the sheet was some kind of mix between gear and fiff, unless i understood him wrong, coz theres no way the gloria was running a 5.7 diff, she's perky but not that perky
Title: SDU Dyno Day 30/7/11
Post by: SafT on August 02, 2011, 12:39:25 PM
What gear was the Gloria run in?

That's an overall drive ratio but assuming you run an r32/33 in 4th it should match diff ratio
Title: SDU Dyno Day 30/7/11
Post by: SafT on August 02, 2011, 12:40:06 PM
I assume the gloria wasn't run in a 1:1 gear anyway

I know mine was run in 4th at 4.1 instead of 4.11 which would make around 1% difference maybe lol

I too ran a tank of fuel from BP Drury.. hm

Probably not bad enough for me to run that lean tho

whatever the hell gear it wanted, im pretty sure that was infact what he was whinging about and why the power was lower (he reckoned it'd show another 10 to 20kw more if it would hold gear and or change properly)

4 speed auto?

I'm sure you can put them in snow mode and engage 2nd and they hold the gear.
Title: SDU Dyno Day 30/7/11
Post by: Stalk3r on August 02, 2011, 01:55:14 PM
nah it wouldnt hold anything, and when it would it wouldnt shift where he wanted etc, snow mode just makes it start in 2nd instead of first, power holds it longer, the other thing thats a significant factor in the problems is, when i did the conversion the cima has around 7 different computers under the dash, i removed a bunch of em (traction control etc), so we were thinking it may be throwing a bit of a wobbly about that, its shiftings all over the place really but doesnt bother me, me and the woman have gotten used to its idiosyncrasies etc

So if hold/snow mode makes it start in second, and having the lever In 2 means it won't go above second which other gears will it select?
Title: SDU Dyno Day 30/7/11

from memory having it in 2 it will just ignore and go to 3 if you take it all the way out to r-line

Post by: westybob on August 02, 2011, 06:16:50 PM
No putting Stageas on the dyno we select 2 and put the snow button on and it stays in 2 - doesn't kick down to 1 or change up.
