okay just looked at the weather via http://www.stuff.co.nz  for both Auckland and Hamilton, (Meremere being in between)  Both areas showed rain starting on Friday, continuing to Saturday, but had a lovely little picture of a sun on Sunday ( namesake I guess)  for both Hamilton and Auckland.  So don't be discouraged ladies and gents when it is hosing on Saturday, Sunday will be a better day.

That's if we can trust the weather people.

Yeap, the turbo could have been on the way out, but they caught it early thank goodness, but still, there is a massive crack in the exhaust manifold, there are 3 bolts that have been sheared off and the oil lines still have the restricters on which should be removed when sticking on say an R33 Turbo, so the oil can be fed through more freely.  So yeah, they have caught it early but I need a new manifold and bolts etc etc, not a huge job but if i hadnt of picked it up it definitly could have been.  That would have been embarrassing sitting on the starting line at Meremere on Sunday and my car blows up

SpeeD R,  You would be best to ring Alltech Turbo and Diesel in Wairau Road, they are fantastic and should be able to do it pretty cheaply if it hasnt already been done.    :D

Hey Brendon,
If u want help on Sunday gimme a yell as i have decided not to race; was a tough decision, but my car needs tunning.

Cheers Guys

Just got back from Meremere, having had a go for the first time.  I had a really great time ( as in event) my times weren't too crash hot for a turbo, 15.9 being my best on the day, but it was still a really awesome experience.

I have to say a really huge thanks to Rob and all those others like Rhys (mic), Brenhan (gate)Debbie (give us your cash) and the Hytech guys (scrutineering), for putting a lot of effort into making the day happen, and operate smoothly.  I know there were plenty others too, but I am not great with names  :p   Thankyou to all!

I'm really interested in seeing how some of those videos turned out Greg/ Simon, maybe we could have a get together when they are compiled or something.

Pity Spectre couldn't make it last minute, hopefully everything on that front is cool banana's.

I'm off now to go have a coffee, and try to get out of my head plans on spending huge amounts of money on my car to gain another 0.5 second.  I'm sure this drag racing thing, could be termed a disease :-)

later all.

back from the drags, it was awesome, cant blive i had 13 runs today, thanks a lot to all the people who helped and organised this. really appreciated. ;)
also congrats to all the people who had a good time down the strip. people like Mark, vince, bizkit, awesome effort dudes. :karate:
look forward for the next event like this, hopefully not only drags, try tracks
:jack:

ps. if anyone wanna see how slow and loud my car is, download the video from the sdu site.

ps2. quick question here, i paid $25 for racing, do i have to pay the $5 spectators aswell?
Title: Meremere Sunday 1st July
Post by: mrmeal on July 01, 2001, 05:38:23 PM
No you shouldn't have to dude.  Brenhan was getting the $5 at the gate from everyone, and Debs was collecting the balance of the 25 to race ( ie $20) from the drivers having cars scrutineered.  At the time she was also getting people registered for Idrag as well, which cost $5, so that's why you would have paid $25 to Debbs as well as the $5 you gave to Brenhan.  Of course Brenhan might just have been collecting the money to skip the country with :-)  hehe

Waa hoo! Head for the hills!  :-)

Awsome I didn't have the slowest time of the day, just watched some of my video footage and heard Rhys mention someones 20.?? i guess my 18.4 (fastest time) isn't to bad for a GTE then.

Couldn't judge on the day as there was no other GTE's

does that make me the fastest GTE :D

and to all the people out there that were caught hassling the little smoky GTE :dfinger:  atleast I'm having a go mate.

all in all an enjoyable day

and DOH:homer:  almost forgot congrats to Mark (aka. VSpec) for breaking the 12 sec mark and to Baby R for breaking 13 sec (and you didn't think you could) :)

Yay, what a great day. I have some in car footage ready to upload to the internet. Just need to work out where???? Almost 50Meg worth.

Some great footage of
- RazorGTSt's 14.5 best run of the day :)
- Baby R 12.7 runs :)
- Kennydead's awesome sounding 1/4 (you have to hear it :D )
- Arithon
and of coarse
- V Spec's personal best 11.8, caught on tape.

Thanks everyone for a great day :)

What a great day.
A huge turn out & fine weather.:D Freezing cold wind all day though.

A few personal records were set. Congrats to Mark V-Spec with his 11.8 (fitting the roll cage is going to make a hell of a mess of that nice GTR interior:p)
Baby R with the 12.7 sec runs in a pretty standard R33 GTR. (I see a big smoking hole in his bank account soon.):splat:
And all the others who attended & supported the event I hope you all had a good time.

One of the pics we took before racing started of most of the competitors cars.

A big congradulations and thank you to everyone who was involved in the SDU drag day.

Its always unfortunate that someone has to give up their time to make these events happen [i.e the people in the tower, not on the track!]. So a big thanks to them and SDU for allowing other clubs, such as Toyspeed etc to participlate.

Keep up the good work ;)

I would like to thank all those who braved the cool sunny weather, and put off any other possible plans to attend today. What a turn out! It was great to see all those from SDU, Toyspeed, and the other car clubs thrashing their cars to the max.

The track was in great condition beyond the cement pad, which was shockingly slippery. For those who it was your first time the conditions of the start line were as tricky as I have ever seen, and a few others who race more than I.

Those who did not stick around or run too much after lunch missed out on the launch pad finally start to come around. 14 runs latter I finally broke into the 14's as I had been loosing traction in 1'st through 3rd. My last two runs were my best all day with a 14.85 and a 14.5 @ 99.12 mph. That makes this my quickest time yet and highest top speed. The mods I had done finally paid off. Can't wait to run on a bit better track.

Congrats to everyone who achieved new personal best times on Sunday. It was also great to see a good turnout.

The best part of the day would have to have been when all the GTR's decided to go hard against each other in grudge racing.

I hope everyones cars are all right after the thrashing you guys/gals gave them. I've got a new clutch on the way, hopefully by the end of the week, after killing my one on the first run. I knew my clutch was a little dodgy but I thought I would give it a go anyway. The second and final run was the definate killer of the clutch.

All in all a good day!!!!

Tom.

Great day well done guys for organising it..... congrads to everyone who ran a personal best as always with drag racing the person your trying to beat is really yourself. A BIG well done to Mark for finally getting it all together and cracking the 12's....its an amazing feeling running in the 11's and its not something everyone has the chance to do. I have as much fun racing the olds RS as I do racing the gtr....hmmm strange that but I really need to learn how to do a burn out, just to damn used to 4WD :) Hehe Ive found a FJ20 turbo motor for the RS as well....so you GTSt guys had better beware....4cylinder turbo skylines are the way to go.

Hey Pat you so have to take me for a ride in that damn infinitiv8 thing....it rocks man.

wot an improvement?:)

Well, travelled three hours to attend the drags.  Had a great time thanks to the organisers!  Pitty the track had to be so slippery, great for power sliding, not so good for times.  Couldn't get anywhere near my best time no matter what I tried:( .

Looked on at the GTRs times with envy, very impressive cars!

Have to thank the people behind the event.  FANTASTIC.  I've been overseas for a few months, great to see so many skylines around.

Sad day for my, nothing stuck, and my poor old gts-t only managed a best of 15.8.  Disappointed I didn't hang around till the end.  Sounds like the track got heaps better.

Go Hard

GSR stopped by tonight after work and we watched the in-car footage. We managed to score Mark Vspec's 11.86 pass and it was impressive!

As I watched my last run on video my concerns were realized. I have rooted my clutch :splat:
When I shifted from 3rd to 4th you could hear the revs come up and hold for about 1 sec or so. Not good on a tight budget right now and being my only mode of transport. So I am now babying the car until I can get the brass button clutch.

The good news is with the shocking track conditions, running 9.5 psi of boost, and a slipping clutch still managing a 14.5 @ 99.12mph. That means a healthy car and decent run through the gears may mean a very low 14 or high 13 sec pass.

What a great day last Sunday was! A great turnout of cars and an opportunity to race against cars other than Skylines. I was "imprezzed" by the WRX and really worried by Brett. I'm sure you got me off the line! What happened to you Neil? We both had a bad run. I missed third and immediately thought my clutch had gone. Got back to the pits to find you had parked for the day.

What a performance from BABYR! 12.7s is a very respectable time considering the R33 GTR only does 12.9s stock depending on which publication you read. The Best I've read is 12.375s.

I was pleased to break 12s for the day which was my goal and having the car stay in one piece was a bonus! Thanks Kent (mean R32 GTR) and Greg (camera) for putting the pressure on which I'm sure did the trick!

I hope they change the rules soon. I don't want to fit a roll cage! I'd rather keep it as a no nonsense street car and build an R32 drag car!

A big thanks to the members who gave of their time generously to make the day as great as it was.

Mark, Your car is pretty impressive when watched from the grandstand!!!Even when you raced other GTRs you seem to gain the lead by about 1~2 cars length! Great Stuff! I admire your car, and look forward to have a race with you when i equip my car with further mods!

BTW, my best time of the day was 12.5secs, i am pretty impressed with my car as i haven't got that much of mods!!

Mark the car sounds like it's going great, have you been spending more money or have you just got it all going better. Did the bigger turbos make the differance by them selves????
Title: V-Spec
Post by: V-Spec on July 09, 2001, 02:00:28 PM
Darren,

The turbos on their own provide a bit more puff at the top end. Combined with more fuel with the bigger injectors, I'm up from under 230KW to close to 290KW at the rear wheels. The only thing stopping me from making more power are the cams which will get some attention when funds permit.
Title: 290kw
Post by: SlowGTS-t on July 09, 2001, 03:24:09 PM
290kw... Man, Im jealous hehehe.

Track was shocking, and I really shouldnt trust the tyre gauges at gas stations. Had the car lighting up through 2nd gear. Hmm and also heard it detonating (ouch!) at towards the top of 4th gear. Quite lucky it didnt blow up really.

But yeah, not one of my better days hehehe but still heaps of fun. Highlight of the day was Rhys calling out for the Asian Girl Racer hehehe. I got so much **** from her for that stunt afterwards. hehehe
