Gee, it's been a while since I updated this!

Yes, that was me dressed all class for working on the car - otherwise known as I came from work, but forgot to bring clothes to work on the car in... Hence dress shoes and what clothes I could find round the workshop. At least I was working, unlike the person who had time to take photos...

ANYWAY, Only some small updates really. Cage has been homologated by MSNZ, looks like this on a piece of paper:

Since then, Steve primed the interior, so it now looks like this:

And while he wasn't looking, I took photos of him working too:

Since then, not a lot has happened. Steve has a couple of other cages he is doing at the moment and has just moved workshops - so the GTR ended up looking like this after the move:

It is a fair bit tidier now, but either way - until Steve has some free time to tidy up the rust and paint the rest of the shell, there isn't a huge amount to be done on the car. So I can focus on buying the rest of the paint to paint the car and paying for the various bits the car needs to get it going. Lots to buy...

In the interim, I also went and did a rally in Auckland as part of the WRC round being held there, driving a WRX. We even made it to the finish for a change...!

At the finish:

And the proof:

Fun times that remind me I do rather like gravel. So gonna have to see what I can do about getting out on the gravel more often!

moany-bitch-tits here...

Photos below, basically I had been thinking (for those that know me, they know this is a rare thing) that I wanted some more protection for the next time I roll. So I asked Steve to put a cross in the main hoop, which would have been much easier to do if I had asked when he was first welding everything together!

It was a bit harder to get it to fit in, but I think he has done a great job:

He also finished off setting up the harness bars (not the best photo, I was too busy focussing on the new cross bar):

Although we also found time to work on the beer:

And while he was busy doing that, I gutted the drivers door so that we can install a carbon fibre cover and put lexan in instead:

Quick update, cage is now largely done. After a big delay while Steve put a cage in my co-drivers WRX which we are rallying next month.

However the GTR now looks like this:

But, I have been thinking that I feel selfish and really want to survive the next crash well, so am attempting to pursuade Steve to put more bars in...

Good progress, cage looks great! Are you wanting a GTR bonnet or will GTS suffice?

p.s. Steve - that's me asking about a cage, left you a message today I'm ready to go when you are done on Vivian's one!

Need a GTR one sorry. There is an ok priced one on TM that I will get at some stage.

And Sam, I have two cages to be built, so that might slow things down a bit...

Yeah and I will get very familiar with the shell while I strip the rust out!

Out of curiosity, are you running Lexan at all?

Pipe requirement increased last year to 44mm or so for the main hoop. Steve also made the backstays with that as well as there was enough left over. So the rest of the bar is the usual size. There will be harness bars to go in yet (most likely will sit between the X in the rear), I haven't worked out what I am going to do to hold the helmets yet, may just stick the hammock right behind our seats.

Where wasn't it? Worst of it was in the front seat feet area, so just between where the ECU sits and the passengers feet, and on the drivers side in a similar location. So poor Steve spent a heap of time cutting it out and tidying it all up with new metal.

The car has had a new left rear quarter and left front quarter attached a while ago and there is a bit of rust on the joins, plus there is also some on the inside edges of the rear guards. Yet to find out just how much there is underneath the rear end. But basically the car is riddled with small pockets of it everywhere...

Time to cage the custard square? :P

I did consider that, but Steve (the co-driver, not Steve the cage builder) has a WRX that would be better suited. However I think the GTB caged would be a good idea at some stage, would give me more boot space!

Quick update with a few pics of the progress.

Cage is now part way through being installed. A couple of colourful shots first of Steve doing his thing:

Main hoop and back stays (which are being built using the same larger diameter tube that is now mandatory for the main hoop):

All glass has now been removed so the cage can be fitted as snugly as possible to the pillars:

Interior is pretty much bare now, however still needs cleaning up so that it can be painted.

I have also been distracted by working at Rally Whangarei recently, which reminded me that I do rather love gravel. So I am working on a plan to enter the WRC round when it comes to NZ in June. I will just run in the Possum Bourne Rally, which runs at the back of the WRC field on the same roads. But to do that I need to get a car ready! And I don't have time/money to setup the GTR. So working out what there is around in the way of lease cars, or whether we chuck a cage into my co-drivers WRX instead... Options are all a bit expensive, but gravel is too much fun to not do it!

Still alive and in Wellington, custard square GTB daily and multicoloured 32 GTR in tiny bits while it gets caged and painted.

Right now I am driving a white Evo 5 as the daily for the moment.

7-8mins in the morning to work, 15-20mins home depending on how heavy traffic is.

So, paint is pretty much all removed from the car now. I have been spending time chipping out all the sound deadening (I really should go get some dry ice but have trouble finding time to get out of work and do so). Steve last night finally had the necessary steel turn up so spent the evening measuring and muttering to himself about the cage and sizing things up so that the cage can start to be welded in shortly. Pics to come soon :)

Next job after finishing the sound deadening will be to remove the small amounts of paint left and then find and attack the rust. There is some small amounts showing on the outside of the rear guards, so need to find just how deep that goes.

In other news I think I have convinced myself that I am brave, so have started to hatch plans to do a gravel rally in the car later in the year... Assuming this happens I will be running in rwd and will have to severly restrict the engine power!

I am still in need of some front indicators and a bonnet if anyone has one for sale?

How did it go Shane? I would have come said hi but was away at Targa Bambina. Saw a couple of pics of your car but haven't checked the results yet.

Valley View is a slightly techinical course, really comes down to testicle size and horsepower as to who wins though! Mt Vic/Admiral road on the otherhand is basically a drag race.

Those belts closest to the pic look correct. But make sure there is no slack between the buckle and the bar, ie have the buckle right up close to the bar.

Main thing is to have them through 3 times otherwise when you crash they slip out of the buckle and your face hits things. I am slightly suprised there was no instructions with the belts on how to install them...?
