South Island / Dunedin SSE meets
« on: January 18, 2015, 07:57:49 PM »
Hey all.

This year i'm aiming to try have at least one cruise meet every single month instead of wimping out in Winter, so will announce the next meet details below this blabbering each time it comes around.

Any type of car at all welcome to attend (or motorbike, van/truck etc), and the only rules are to please hold off on the skids, speeding etc while you're with us. A group of cars is going to attract attention and we don't want that to be negative attention, nor do we want the Police to stop us. Been organising meets for ten or more years now with no trouble from the Police, so want to keep it that way!

The next meet will be mentioned as a reply to this topic, so keep checking back!

Meets are on rain or shine. (we're not an SDU competitor if you've never heard of us, we only operate in the South Island and the club was actually formed from the South Island section of SDU way back in 2003).

South Island / On Sunday, November 23rd...
« on: October 05, 2014, 02:18:40 PM »'ll be attending the 2014 Otago Community Hospice Charity Cruise in Dunedin, right? ;)

(top pic in flyer below is from our 2011 or 2012 event)

(scanned flyer, hence the bad quality)

We're now in our fifth year, and are hoping that this is the year when it doesn't rain!

Last year we allowed motorbikes for the first time, and it was also our best year yet. 180+ cars, 8 motorbikes, $3,655.70 raised for the hospice.

Other than turning up on the day, we also would love for people to help spread the word - even to people you see at the petrol station/supermarket/golf course in their Jag, Porsche, GT-R, F350, Harley, Aprillia etc.

Theres still been a few marques we haven't seen yet either, Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini, Lancia, Lexus?, Maserati, Rolls Royce, TVR. Had a number of Ferrari's and Porsches turn up over the years, but it's always awesome to get any type of car along!

See you there...  :P

South Island / Sunday Aug 25th - Next Dunedin meet
« on: August 16, 2013, 04:16:39 PM »
- 1PM

Mini golf is $8 an adult and $5 for a child, or family passes for 2 adults and 3 children for $25.

And driving range is $10 for a big bucket of balls, or $5 for a small bucket. If you have your own club it could be a good idea to bring it, as apparently they only have a limited number of them to use.

Hosted by Southern Skylines, anyone with any type of car welcome (only have to at least like Skylines/Cefiros etc) but keep everything legal when with the gathering (no littering, no skids/drag racing etc). We never have any trouble with the Police and we'd like that to continue. :)

Its been too long, so lets all meet up, have a chat and then see how the day pans out as to whether we do a cruise or something else!
- Saturday, 27 July 2013
- 1:00pm
- Victoria Park, Christchurch

Like Chch, its also been too long since the last meet!

Lets all catch up and then figure out what we'll do, cruise or otherwise.
Rain, hail and most definitely shine.
- Sunday, 28 July 2013
- 1:00pm
- Dunedin Ice Stadium carpark (big one), Victoria Rd, St Kilda

If you're rich/work at a petrol station then you could even attend both events! ;)

Southern Skyline Enthuiasts / An encyclopedia i'm creating...
« on: May 15, 2013, 05:13:52 PM »
Hey guys and gals.

I'm just wondering if it would be okay to ask SDUers for more help for this wee project i have going, creating the internets best/most accurate Skyline Encyclopedia?

Only asking for permission as it is hosted over on SSE. It actually has nothing to do with the club (despite seemingly saying the contrary on the page), but since i run it now it gives me the perfect place to put it. Used to have basic R32-R34 info on my personal Skyline fan page, but thats gone to the dark recesses of the internets.

By no means at all am i trying to recruit members - i'm just struggling a wee bit with certain things (which is probably why no-one else has attempted this on such a scale before!).

I have the below topic in the Stagea section as an example of some things i'm struggling with (separating models from trims with Stags/Laurels etc), but was thinking of posting the main one in General Skyline Discussion.

If you aren't happy with the idea, or want me to omit links to the encyclopedia page and references to SSE, then that can be done.

Here is the main page anyway. The R32 GXi section goes the deepest so far, which is the level of information i hope to get for all models in the end. As a starter anyway...

Auckland and North / April Auckland meet? On a Sunday?
« on: February 11, 2013, 05:17:50 PM »
Hello person reading this.

It looks like me, the wife and the in laws are all heading up to Auckland for Black Sabbath on Saturday 20th April, so was wondering what the chances are of having a meet that weekend so we can meet some of ya's? My father in law could be keen too, as he also has a Skyline.

Although i do run/'own' Southern Skyline Enthusiasts club now, i started out in SDU and still like this club (when people aren't having virtual arguments anyway).

Think we are flying up on Friday (not bringing a car up :( ), and me and wifey are flying back Monday arvo (?), leaving Sunday free at this stage. Flights and accommodation already paid for i believe.

Just an idea anyway, but we'd probably need picked up as will likely get lost/have to use public transport. Last (and the only) time i went to Auckland i was about 5 years old i think - only remember the lions pit at Auckland Zoo. :o :D

I know this post is rather early, but hey. :p

Stolen Cars / Dunedin chop shop busted
« on: January 30, 2013, 11:26:59 PM »

Found six performance cars there, including a Skyline. :(

Sadly, they'll get a slap on the wrist and carry on again later. Driven past that site a couple of times, that whole area seems real dodgy (low income housing, in the middle of the wop wops). :|

South Island / Invercargill meet - Sun, 9th Dec
« on: October 23, 2012, 10:10:55 PM »
This is originally a Southern Skylines meet, but incase there are any Invercargillians here on SDU you're more than welcome to meet up with us too. Proviso you don't do anything stupid/illegal (skids, dumping rubbish etc) as we'll report it to the Police!

Dunedities are leaving Dunedin about 8am on the Sunday morning (9th December) and are free to return whenever they please (no locked in timetable ;) ).

If you're on Facebook, heres the event page:

South Island / 2012 Otago Community Hospice Charity Cruise!
« on: September 30, 2012, 03:13:56 PM »
I came up with the idea for this after my mother passed away from cancer while in the Hospice in 2008. The aim of the event is primarily to raise as much money for the Otago Community Hospice as possible, to say thanks.
- In 2010's event, we raised $2,235.50 for the hospice, with just 155 cars on a rainy day, and with the event ending three hours early!
- In 2011's event, we raised $1,401.90 for the hospice, with only 75 cars on an even rainier day than 2010! Didn't put some people off, despite the wet we still had a Porsche 911 and Ferrari 550 Marenello turn up and participate, as well as a brand new Corvette ZR-1!

By charging each driver and each passenger a minimum 'compulsuary' donation of $5 (higher amounts are encouraged if you can afford it) to enter the cruise. And gold coin entry fee ('donation') for members of the public at the opening of the car show at 1pm.

- Pay money to officials (passengers need to pay $5 or more too)
- Sign a disclaimer form, so we aren't liable for anything you do
- Get a small sticker put on your car to show you've paid (any cars that arrive back from the cruise without a sticker will have to pay)
- Line up and park where directed
- Do above cruise route. Drive safely, its not a race!
- Arrive back before 1pm for food/car show etc.
- Five trophies will be available to hand out for cars on display after the cruise, best Japanese, American, European, Australian and British cars.

All exotic cars (Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Lamborghini, Maserati, Lotus, TVR, Mercedes and so on). All muscle cars (FPV/Tickford and HSV/HDT etc cars, Corvette, Camaro, Mustang etc). Classic cars (Shelby, Jaguar, Mini, Rover, Triumph and so on). Hot rods. Sports trucks/SUVs (Dodge Ram, Ford Territory Turbo, Ford F250 etc). Japanese sports cars (Skyline, Supra, RX-7, WRX, EVO, NSX, S2000, GTO, 300zx/350z/370Z and so on). Japanese 'old school' classics (Pre R30 Skylines, Prince models, DX Corolla, AE86, RX3 and so on). Vintage cars (Model T Ford, Daimler and so on). Race cars/track cars (if not road legal then tow them on the cruise on the trailer!).

If your car doesn't fall into any of those categories, does it have any aftermarket modifications (bigger wheels, bodykit, fancy paintwork, rare factory bodykit and so on)? If thats a yes, you can bring it along too - even if it is a 4WD/people carrier (so long as they aren't standard looking!).

This is also the perfect opportunity to get those prized treasures out of the garage, the ones that very seldom get seen by the public eye. You'll possibly have a slightly bigger chance to win a trophy and prize pack for doing so!

This event is a great chance for recruiting new members! We'll even allow you to set up wee stalls etc around the edge of the grounds so you can have somewhere for people to learn more about your club and join up!

Off-Topic / Old Dunedin (and other cities)
« on: August 30, 2012, 08:41:00 PM »
Hey guys/gals.

I started up a Facebook page a few weeks ago which is basically a place for people to upload photos of how Dunedin used to look. As there is probably thousands of people out there with old photos of the city, i'm posting this here to hopefully find more peeps from Dunedin who have some pics they could share. I've almost run out of photos myself, and can't find much more through Google searches, so it's pretty much up to everyone else at this point.

Anywhere in the Dunedin region counts, including Mosgiel, Outram, Dunedin Airport, Port Chalmers and so on. And it could be photos of roads, railways, buildings and so on.

At the moment, the profile pic is of a Mack R series heading up Saddle Hill near Mosgiel - before the median barrier down the middle.

But yeah, again i'm only posting it here as am getting a bit desperate for new pics!

Could be a good idea starting up similar pages for the city/town you live in too.

Have now created pages for Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill. If anyone creates a page for any other towns/cities, be sure to 'Like' these pages so its easier for people to find.

Stagea - the Skyline wagon / Stagea models (not the toy ones)?
« on: August 06, 2012, 02:34:54 PM »
Does anyone know the what the 'basic' models of Stageas are (not the versions)?

I'm creating a Skyline/Skyline family encyclopedia (should be finished in about fourteen years time ;) ). At the moment on it (offline version) i have the following as possible pages for the Stagea series 2. They are too specific for the basic model page though - i'll try explain below.
WC34 Stagea 20G
WC34 Stagea 20X
WC34 Stagea 20RS
WC34 Stagea 25RRS
WC34 Stagea 25X
WC34 Stagea 25RRS FOUR
WC34 Stagea 25X FOUR
WC34 Stagea Type B (25t RS V)
WC34 Stagea 25t RS V
WC34 Stagea Type B (25t RS FOUR S)
WC34 Stagea 25t RS FOUR V
WC34 Stagea 25t RS FOUR S
WC34 Stagea 25t X FOUR
[ WC34 Stagea Autech 260RS > Autech section]

Rather a lot! If i was to do the same with the R32, and include the varients (not all varients listed below);
R32 Skyline GXi
R32 Skyline GXi Type X
R32 Skyline GTE
R32 Skyline GTE Type X
R32 Skyline GTS
R32 Skyline GTS Type J
R32 Skyline GTS Type X
R32 Skyline GTS Type S
R32 Skyline GTS-25
R32 Skyline GTS-25 Type S
R32 Skyline GTS-25 Type X G
R32 Skyline GTS-t
R32 Skyline GTS-t Type M
R32 Skyline GTS-4
R32 Skyline GT-R

But the R32 page actually looks like this:
R32 Skyline GXi
R32 Skyline GTE
R32 Skyline GTS
R32 Skyline GTS-25
R32 Skyline GTS-t
R32 Skyline GTS-4
[ R32 Skyline Autech GT-R > Autech section ]
R32 Skyline GT-R (incl. V-Spec, N1, Nismo etc varients)

So would i get away with 'shortening' the Stagea list to something like this (just deleted similarish ones), but still be accurate?

WC34 Stagea 20
WC34 Stagea 25RRS
WC34 Stagea 25X
WC34 Stagea 25RRS FOUR
WC34 Stagea 25X FOUR
WC34 Stagea 25t RS
WC34 Stagea 25t RS FOUR
WC34 Stagea 25t X FOUR
[ WC34 Stagea Autech 260RS > Autech section]

Really hope someone can help, as it's a bit confusing! Or are all those initially listed, actual models, like the second list of R32's above?

General Skyline Discussion / R34 GT FOUR - what to look out for?
« on: June 05, 2012, 03:05:43 PM »
Someone i know is interested in buying an R34 GT FOUR sedan (manual?), and would like to know what sort of things they should look out for when test driving it?

Hope some of ya'll can help. :)

Gaming / Fallout 3
« on: November 30, 2011, 08:30:33 PM »
Old game i know (2008?), but i've been hopelessly addicted to playing it for the past few weeks. My PlayStation tan is 'improving' i'd say (a.k.a. wheres the door to the outside world?). :p

Started a save on my brothers Xbox 360 a few years back and only just started playing it again a few weeks ago. Other games be dammed - don't have time anymore. ;)

To steal the same post i put on my forums:

When i finally started playing it again after not playing for a couple years or so, i found it very nerve wracking and i was being overly cautious everywhere i went incase i stumbled apon a abonimation/robot/animal/raider/hostile human etc. I think the main reason was because ammo, guns and health is in shortish supply early on, but as i'm up to level 13 or so now things have become a bit easier.

Of course, with all the leveling up, the monsters sometimes level up too, so instead a a giant sized Rad Scorpion (prolly just bigger than the average human?) theres now occasionally a Giant Rad Scorpion (twice the size of the other one) with them. And with more exploration of the huge map, you are bound to run into enemies you've never encountered before, that can kill you with just a few swipes of their hands (for the Deathclaw).

I really love the exploration in the game , and how you can pick up pretty much any object and take it with you/use it in some way. The very flexible leveling up system is awesome, and is great motivation to keep playing - to try max out all your skills.

I know its a relatively old game, but still looks great and if you've never played it before you're really missing out!

It sucks a LOT of your spare time up though (think it takes 100+ hours to finish the game?).
