General Performance / Exhaust Questions
« on: April 09, 2012, 09:42:55 AM »
Alright, I know next to nothing about exhausts.

All I know is I dont like the look of the big round thing sticking out the back of my car.

Here's how it looks at the moment:

And I would prefer to go to a stock looking twin pipe setup like this:

The official name is muffler right? Do I just go to an exhaust place and say I want to swap for a twin pipe muffler?

What's that second muffler doing in the middle there?

Finally, anything I should avoid that is going to sound crap? Do I need to go with a good brand? What sort of price am I looking at installed?

Waikato / BOP / Box of beer for whoever lets me borrow an R34 AFM

Just need to install it, go for a spin up the road to see if it fixes my car, then I'm done.

Hamilton area would be good.

Audio, Security and Electrical / Alarm Options
« on: December 10, 2011, 11:24:59 AM »
Did a search but all threads are too old.

Am after a new alarm, around the $400-$450 mark I suppose.

Main feature I would like is txt alert when the alarm goes off? As well as the basics, turbo timer, boot release etc.

Any reccomendations?

Also after a decent installer in Hamiltron.

Waikato / BOP / Hamilton RB Dyno Tuning?

Anywhere in the tron that can re-map my stock ECU?

Not looking for power gains, just get the god damned timing better.

Forced Induction / SOLVED: My First Misfire :)
« on: November 30, 2011, 06:43:08 PM »
So after owning an N/A R34 for two years with no issues, I buy the turbo and after two weeks things start breaking down :D

I'ts started doing a 'stutter' on high boost. Not sure if its a misfire as I dont really know the definition. I'll call it a stutter.

I've searched and read all the other threads- just wanted to see if anyone can pinpoint anything particular with mine.

So the backstory:

-Swapped coilpacks with my other R34. These coilpacks are Yellow Jackets, done approx 25,000kms. New spark plugs, 1.1mm gap.
-Drove to Auckland and back, bout 300kms, all good.
-One week of general driving passes
-Car got quite low on fuel. I filled up 53 litres.
-Drove 15km home, taking it easy.
-Changed Oxygen sensor with new OEM Nissan one.
-Went for 'spirited' drive to 'test' oxygen sensor
-Nek minnut, stuttering at full boost. Car goes fine at lower RPMS and accelerates well at half throttle.

Have uploaded a ****ty youtube video but you cant really hear it properly. But thats full throttle and as you can see very slow :D

Any ideas? Car is stock other than intake/exhaust.

Just noticed some of my fan backlights are not working. They are the ones in the red box on the picture:

I havn't looked yet but are these bulbs easily replaceable? Cars only done 85,000kms so not sure why there's issues here :/

Maintenance & Car Care / No radio signal
« on: November 15, 2011, 09:59:12 PM »
Hoping you audio experts can help me.

I have no radio reception. Just replaced head unit the car came with and still no reception.

Was a straight Sony/Sony swap so I didn't need to do any wiring.

Guy I bought it off said radio used to work but he assumed the antennae plug fell out of back of radio (unsure if he's telling the truth, but then he bought it off Four Guys and I doubt they sold it without a working radio?)

Antennae lead first goes to this join thing:

Then it goes to this thing:

Any obvious things I should check before going to Auto Electrician? Audio systems confuse the **** out of me.

General Skyline Discussion / Anyone know this Raglan R34?
« on: November 07, 2011, 10:29:37 AM »
Or is it anyone on here?

I'm going for a look tonight.

Had a look at this one yesterday but I'm thinking its a bit too modified for my taste:

Luckily only momentarily.

Happens when going for a 'spirited' drive through windy rural roads (ie every time I go driving).

Basically, if you make a hard fast turn one way then try and turn immediately in the opposite direction, the steering will completely freeze for about a second (at least it seems like a second, hard to tell).

Obviously, at speed having no steering even for a second is not good.

Now, the only known problem is a very slight leak in the power steering rack. Its so slight, that I havn't had to top it up in over a year (but its starting to get a bit low). Which makes me wonder if it only leaks when the steering system is under extreme pressure. Is it possible that oil squirting out the leak under pressure will cause my steering wheel to freeze?

Suspension mods: Tein lowering springs. Adjustable bushes for camber.

The tie rod ends are new.

Any ideas?

Maintenance & Car Care / Changing R34 Park Light- mission?
« on: February 24, 2011, 09:02:58 AM »
Dudes, about to go in for warrant so need to change park light. Is there an easy way to do this on passenger side without removing the headlight?

If no, is there an easy way to remove the headlight without removing the bumper?

I thought this would be a 2 minute job!

Cant be bothered arguing with people.

After rats ate some of my engine components a while ago my master cylinder has been holed up with silicone.

Looking at buying a new one now, see this one on trademe is BM44, holes all look the same, but says its large bore and ideal for 4 pot upgrades?

I have a 2 pot N/A R34, will this cylinder still be ok?

General Skyline Discussion / Hmmm
« on: January 21, 2011, 06:46:01 PM »
Just coming down the road, around the corner and there are police and ambulance blocking the road.

I see in front of me my managers flatmates R33 GTS and a runner lying on the ground with two broken legs.

Not a good look for Skylines! But at least the runner is alive.

This flatmate is a chick driving a sedan and i doubt she is the speeding type. But I can't see how you hit a runner on a reasonably straight piece of road?

Suspension, Steering, Braking, Wheels & Tyres / Seized brake piston?
« on: January 14, 2011, 06:05:24 PM »
Just changing my front brake pads as the front left was squealing. Took off front right first, and saw the pad was almost new? Thought that was strange, changed it anyway. Got pistons back in easy.

Got to the left and theres not much pads left, but cant push the piston in.

Almost seems that last person to change pads only did the right as they couldn't get piston in on left?

I have tried using a C-Clamp and also undoing the bleeder valve. Do I need a new caliper? Where can I get calipers?

General Skyline Discussion / Skyline head unit surround
« on: December 22, 2010, 09:23:22 PM »
I installed a new head unit in my car a few months ago, but I couldnt get the plastic cover that is supposed to cover the gaps around it as it couldn't fit past the stock skyline trim.

Im guessing everyone has this problem? I bought some 4mm rubber tube from a jewellery shop to cover the ugly gap but if I remove the faceplate the rubber falls down lol.

I was wondering if this sort of thing would fix the problem?
