Maintenance & Car Care / Vibrations :(
« on: April 28, 2015, 10:43:53 AM »
Hi guys,

Haven't posted for a while. Updates on the cefiro though. Sourced a factory manual cefiro driveshaft and what do you know..? the vibration disappears. the next day?? get shunted from behind on my way to work. Only smacked into the towbar (muahaha) but now theres a shudder on take off. and by take off i mean, 3k drop the clutch shudder. Anything to look out for? Been under for a look and everything is tight as. Thought it might be diff but the past few wet days have given me the opportunity to test the diff in a smooth concrete car park late at night and its not shuddering. My cousin mentioned trailing arms, google translated to upper control arms, but someone said traction arms? D: D: D:

Cockram Nissan Christchurch / Fuel Injector O - Rings
« on: November 06, 2014, 03:29:21 PM »
Leaking fuel injectors, so thought might be a case of replacing them. How much shipped to my address unless I can pick them up. I gave you guys a bell and the person I talked to (Greg?) said they were out of stock and had to be shipped from Auckland warehouse. Not sure if it's the bottom or top ones but it's leaking onto the plenum.

Audio, Security and Electrical / Slow power windows
« on: June 23, 2014, 09:23:34 PM »
Both driver and front passenger windows of my A31 Cefiro are quick to go down, but tend to struggle going back up. Had a brief google about the issue today but couldn't seem to come to a conclusive answer and where to begin on my list tracking down the issue. I was hesitant on replacing/reconditioning the power window motor, but saw that it could be a case of dried, un-lubed window rubbers (and as we know, we need to use lube to make work easier :o ), which could be repaired by using a lacquer to re-vitalize the rubber and finish off with some silicon.

Any pros in this area?

Suspension, Steering, Braking, Wheels & Tyres / 5-stud A31
« on: June 12, 2014, 11:50:08 AM »
I have been doing a bit of research into what I'd need to convert my Cefiro to support 5x114.3 rim choices. From what I understand, I'd need:

  • S14/S15 Knuckles/5-stud hubs/discs/caliper
  • R33/S14/S15 LCA (would require drilling sway bar mounts), although I could reuse the A31 LCA and just press an R33/S14/S15 balljoint into it.
  • R32/R33/Stagea 5-Stud hub/discs/caliper

Have you guys converted an A31 to 5-stud? Which method did you use? Is there anything I'm missing from the above list?

As C33 are similar to A31, I'm sure this list can be used to convert Laurels.

Off-Topic / Rumour Mill: Certification Cost Increase

Apparent price increase at the end of the month. Currently it's $500, what do you guys reckon it could go to?

Aerodynamics | Paint & Panel / rust work
« on: April 28, 2014, 04:52:26 PM »
Anyone know a reliable and effective panelbeater than can fix some rust on my cef. Will need back and front windscreens taken out I reckon. Rust is located in inside guard, engine bay along seam between inner guard and firewall, both a-pillars, along windscreen pillar on passenger side and back window. Had both fixed professionally earlier, however their fix Isn't so permanent.

General Performance / rubber gearbox mount
« on: April 20, 2014, 10:24:02 AM »
Are there differences between the r33 and a31 gearbox mounts other than the size? I've swapped my cef one over and I've found the r33 one seems a lot softer than the cef one to the point where I can hardly feel the Joltyness of a manual unless that's just the factory manual cross member?

Audio, Security and Electrical / TCU box
« on: April 13, 2014, 03:10:29 PM »
Safe to disconnect on manual converted Cefiro? As far as I know its pretty much redundant once you convert the car as it only supplies shifting signals to the ecu. So is it safe to unplug and remove? Planning on removing all the automatic trans wiring for the car altogether.

EDIT* Asked on RBWest and they reckon its safe to unplug.

Maintenance & Car Care / RB20DET gearbox troubles
« on: March 28, 2014, 05:15:54 PM »
If you guys have been following my build thread, you will know that I have convert my Cefiro to manual last weekend and have found the gearbox I purchased for $300 to be quite noisy. (Apparently it came out of a car that had done 110,XXX ks and had been pulled apart and inspected and it was fine.)

However, I seem to be having slight difficulty getting it into second sometimes, third and fourth are a noisy and cause a bit of vibrations under a minor bit of load, and fifth whines under acceleration.

What do you guys reckon?

EDIT* So I've installed the bolts from gearbox to sump brackets and the vibrations have totally gone away. Only had the gearbox to engine brackets installed, however fifth gear still whines but not as severely..

General Performance / 20E problems.
« on: March 20, 2014, 01:55:16 PM »
A week or so ago these problems have started, usually during idling first start of the day, but also shortly after first start on my way to uni while accelerating (I don't usually have time to warm it up fully). These issues seem to be having an effect my gearbox, which doesn't seem to shift as smoothly (it's always shuddered, but it feels like you have to rev the engine past a certain point or else it shifts up and down) I have had issues with my dizzy wiring which i've remedied using some cable ties and allowing the wires to 'sit' in a position where they work. I'm probably going to need to replace the wiring, however since I'm on the verge of converting it to manual, I'm not sure whether I can source a 20e Cefiro engine loom.

Cefiro is having issues which include:

-revs drop sporadically on idling in morning (first warm up)
-revs continue to sporadically drop while accelerating while on my way to uni.
-shifting has changed, where it won't stay in a gear when at a certain rev range (roughly 2.7k-3k)
-fuel consumption has increased, probably because it sometimes refuses to shift up a gear

any help would be appreciated. I kinda hoped converting to manual would aid it in saving a bit of petrol, but this new found issue is bothering me.

Cockram Nissan Christchurch / A31 Cefiro Brake redo
« on: March 20, 2014, 01:45:19 PM »
Hi Dan,

Thanks for the gearbox bolts I bought off you guys the other week. Delivery was bloody quick!

Could I grab a quote for:

-brake pads (front and rear)
-brake rotors
-handbrake shoes

to suit non-turbo rb20e cefiro priced separately...

Off-Topic / Night Speed Drag Wars

Which member here was at Night Speeds last night? I saw a white R33 GT-R with the plate DO TRY? At least I assumed it was a member...

General Performance / r32 center uni joint
« on: February 05, 2014, 07:48:18 PM »
Are these uni joints the same across all r32s. Apparently you need an r32 one of these to use the front driveshaft (center flange onwards) from manual r32 on the cefiro tail shaft.

Has anyone done a DIY job of this by themselves? I received one as a gift from my mate who's currently building an RB25DET R32 Skyline, but it could do with a clean, wirebrush and repaint. Has anyone rebuilt one of these as a home jobbie before? I don't want to damage it and have to shell out the cash for a new one if I can make this one a bit better.

Aerodynamics | Paint & Panel / Prep 'n Painting Wheels
« on: January 24, 2014, 03:13:56 PM »
Hey guys! I am looking at painting the wheels I have on my '88 Cefiro, however I am unsure of costs, what i'd need and steps to take. I have watched the Mighty Car Mods video that they did to Marty's Subaru Legacy, but it's hard to guess how much I'd need for mine.
