General Skyline Discussion / My R32 - what's it worth?
« on: June 09, 2014, 09:24:39 PM »
Hey all....
A little voice in the back of my head is saying the time to sell could be near, as much as I'll avoid that situation if it's possible (partly comes down to finding a cheap-ish daily for work).
So right now I'm keen to know what sorta coin my car would fetch if I was to put it on the market. Not interested in browsing the auction sites to get an idea, most are beaten up skid hacks that demand way too much money. This isn't that type of car....

Details -
1991 R32 GTS-t (owned it for about 6 years)
Manual (converted well before I bought it)
136xxxkms - genuine kms, was in storage for 4 1/2 years before I bought it, it's only very recently become my daily driver.
M Spec
Tinted (legally)
Alarmed
17" R34 GT-t wheels
Cusco front strut brace
Cusco rear strut brace
Tein Super Street suspension
HKS Hi Power cat back exhaust
K&N pod filter with custom made cold air box/intake
RB25DET turbo (S2 - nylon compressor)
FMIC
RIPS Front facing plenum kit
RIPS 80mm throttle body
GFB Universal Hybrid BOV
Alloy radiator
Air diversion plate
Catch can
Light weight flywheel
Exedy Sports Tuff clutch kit
Maybe more I've forgotten

So... what do ya reckon it would sell for?

Off-Topic / Amateur astronomy
« on: February 09, 2014, 09:46:04 PM »
Hey all, just a completely random thread that some of you may find interesting.
Astronomy and cosmology really interest me and the pics below are things I've known about for years - just I've never had the ability to see them for myself.... 'till now! I recently bought myself a DSLR camera and pointed it to the sky the other night (these can all be seen at a bare minimum with good binoculars, just you'll obviously never get a still image).
Go easy, these are the first real pics I've taken with the camera so they can only get better from here.

Technical info
Camera - Canon EOS 1100D
Lens - Canon EF 75-300mm
All mounted on a tripod

Photobucket downsized the damn pics ugh!!

This is Jupiter and 3 of its largest moons. 2 are very close to the planet, the 3rd is on the same axis slightly to the right. The 4th moon that's usually visible must be in front of or behind the planet.
Jupiter is the 3rd brightest object in the night sky after the Moon and Venus.

(zooming in helps with this pic)
Orion Nebula. This nebula is the centre of Orion's sword (centre "star" in the handle of The Pot as we locally know it)
A nebula is basically a cloud of gases and dust... stars are born in nebulae.

A star cluster called the Seven Sisters

Off-Topic / Spotted the most random and awesome Toyota today....
« on: September 17, 2013, 09:05:57 PM »
....but when I saw it cruising along the motorway, I had no idea what it was. It was big and limo-ish with simply "Century" across the boot and an odd looking badge (definitely not a Toyota badge). The styling was questionable at best.... tail lights and wing mirrors that sorta had an Eastern European flavour (ie - terrible) and a front end that just looks strange.
I was right to think it was odd... this car is made from 1997-present BUT very little changed from the 1st Gen Century from 1967 - they tried to keep the old styling on a much more modern car.

When I got home I did some digging to find out what the hell it was... very surprised to find out it was Japanese, let alone Toyota... but the biggest surprise was (and this is the real kicker..) it's got a god damn 206kw 1GZ-FE under the bonnet... to save you looking it up, that's a 5L V12 :notworthy
It's the most luxurious car Toyota has ever had in production, it's even above Lexus! There are loads of unique and different features about the car if you look it up

Just thought I'd share as an "out of interest" type post :) It's certainly the first time I've seen and heard about that car.

I didn't get any pics of it... but this is the 2nd Gen Toyota Century

Hey all
I've read about a few different ways to remove the spigot bush when doing an auto to manual conversion but when I was helping a mechanic mate do a manual conversion on an R32 yesterday he showed me a really neat trick to get that bush out - very, VERY easily too!
Sorry if this is common knowledge but it was certainly news to me!

Find a tool that fits inside the spigot bush (my mate uses a small socket extension) - don't expect to re-use this tool for its intended purpose and it will need a solid, flat end. I'll call it a bush removal tool from here....
Grab some newspaper (not the glossy stuff)
Grab a cup of water

Tear the news paper into small pieces, dunk each piece in the cup of water and push them into the bush.
Once the bush is "full" of paper, grab the bush removal tool and a hammer and whack the tool into the newspaper. Once the paper is compacted from a few solid hits, fill it with more wet newspaper and hit it with the tool again. Each time you fill the bush with wet newspaper and squash it all with the bush removal tool you will see the bush come out a bit.
My mate said the bush takes 3 "fills" of newspaper to get it out completely and this was true for this manual conversion!

Trust me, this technique works very well.... and it takes no more than 10 mins to do with no mess beyond a bit of wet newspaper!

General Skyline Discussion / R33 Series 2 bumper lip - DIY
« on: July 13, 2012, 03:13:20 PM »
I spotted this on another forum, I reckon it looks damn nice on the factory bumper so I'm posting this to give other R33 owners another option for a bumper lip :) The simplicity is just full of win!!

"Made from the top section of a spare Spec 2 bumper" - pretty self explanatory really!

General Skyline Discussion / R33 S2 mirror - heated?
« on: June 05, 2012, 10:09:32 PM »
I've been reading on another forum the R33 series 2 wing mirrors are heated. Apparently there isn't a switch on the dash, the heated mirrors simply turn on with the rear demister. This person is in the UK and there aren't any UK spec Skylines of that type so it's not a country specific thing but every one he's seen, they are heated.
On my old R33 I never noticed condensation on the wing mirrors drying away (trust me, the rear demister got used enough for me to notice something like that).
I've also never heard of it on any R33 before this.... so, opinions/thoughts?
Does your R33 S2 have heater mirrors? Anyone heard of it?

Off-Topic / What’s the Greatest Exotic That Never Was?

http://hooniverse.com/2012/02/17/hooniverse-asks-whats-the-greatest-exotic-that-never-was/

Quite an interesting site.... there are some absolute shockers in there that come straight from the "what the f*** were they thinking" category... but there are some damn nice cars which would have been cool to see in production!

A few examples...

Nissan R390 :notworthy

LMAO!! Thank you for NOT making this car GM

Off-Topic / New Ford Falcon Ad...
« on: May 05, 2012, 06:53:20 PM »
As some of you may not know... the Falcon is now coming out with a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.

This is their ad for the release of the new Falcon.... slightly bizarre but it gets the point across! I reckon it's quite well done

Picture Post / Pics of my old R33 (Moby)
« on: April 30, 2012, 08:37:45 PM »
Some of you may remember this car, some of you may have heard about it and some of you simply may not give a crap lol

I was looking for a DVD I knew I had and I knew it was buried in my room ...somewhere. So, I started digging and eventually found what I was looking for but I also found a CD that had pics of my old R33 on it from a photoshoot a mate and I did years ago - I had completely forgotten about the CD and photoshoot. I don't have too many pics of my old R33 so finding these was like finding gold :D The photoshoot was done 6ish years ago

Quick spec list so you know what you're looking at -
Lowered on GAB coilovers
Impul RS3 17" 3 piece wheels (staggered fitment)
Full aftermarket exhaust inc HKS Super Drager cat back
K&N POD, cold air box, cold air intake
R33 GTR FMIC, piping done by R.I.P.S.
GTR replica bumper
+ a few more bits

Here are some of those pics, enjoy :)

Some may notice the tail lights have some black stuff on them - if you wonder why, scroll down to the bottom pic.
