General Performance / R32 plug identification needed

Hi guys,
I've butchered the loom everywhere over the long period of time and now I can't remember what this particular plug is for.

It's at the back end of the coil (and injector) loom, 2 pin (|- style) connector. I think I have everything else hooked up, except for col air regulator valve which sits in the middle of intake manifold but I ditched it long ago.
Any ideas?

Just had a quick look at the wiring diagram (as I wasn't fully confident), the relay in the engine bay fuse/relay box serves high beam only. I bet if you pull the relay and turn on the high beam, it won't work. So like I said, the problem is very likely the switch unable to handle the full current required for 60W(?) bulb. I'd say most switches of R32 vintage would have suffered high current going through without relay and buggered like yours - which may explain your new switch still doesn't work. It's a dumb system, and that's why I recommend you rewire to have a relay for low beam as well. In that way, the switch will only carry minute trigger current and you can keep the switch. When you do it that way, you can probably use only one good contact of the switch to feed both LH & RH low beam as the trigger current is bugger all compared to that required for 60W bulb.

Unlikely it maybe, possibly the new switch is also a dud? If, so, the switch can carry a very small current at no load (i.e. when you put multimeter leads on with switch turned on) but when you actually put the bulb in the circuit, it will draw a reasonable current under load and can't supply the required current any more.
This scenario may apply to the plug also (for whatever reason, some of the wire strands have been chafed and severed etc)
I think the best way is to isolate the plug first, i.e. apply direct 12VDC to the plug and see if it lights up. You'll probably have to peel the insulation but I reckon it's worth it. If it's good, try that again further upstream, maybe just before the relays (if there are any), then to the switch etc.

I'm pretty sure there is no relay (but you want to double check) so I'd add relays to prevent this happening in the future, in addition to a new switch.

r32 head light system has a tendency of intermittently losing one side, i'm guessing it's the low beam that does it.
if my memory serves me right, low beam circuit doesn't have relays and that's why it happens.
i bypassed the original switch and replaced it with a generic switch and relays, no more problems even with 100w bulbs.
as for plastic pin melting, possibly the metal contacts didn't have enough good surface areas to transfer non-relayed current and got too hot.

Hi all,
I made a bit of mess while de-cluttering wiring - I cut a wrong wire going to the back of the big square connector (behind and up the interior fusebox/relay). And I cut it flush to the back of the connector so I can't splice to the wire either.
What I want to do is to pull the pin out and recrimp (or something) to the mistakenly cut wire.
Unfortunately I'm having trouble pulling the pin out - with connectors with larger pins used elsewhere, I have poke the little tab (which keeps the pin locked in the plastic connector housing) and pulled the pin out but that technique has failed me so far.
Can anyone help me out?

General Performance / Radiator & fan gap

Hi all,
I noticed there is around 45mm (give or take 5mm) gap between the back of the radiator and the fan and I'm wondering if I can pull back the radiator closer to the fan so I can have some room for intercooler pipes.
Does anyone have ideas what effect that will have to 1) cooling efficiency and 2) whether there will be interference when the fan is spinning at max rev and 3) any other issues?

Right thanks - I upgraded to peak hold 440cc a while ago and put together a resistor pack.
I'm guessing I'll have to make up a new one to if I wanted to ditch this?

Yeah that came across my mind but his shop has A LOT of cars and stuff already...

Good luck with the sale - I can vouch for the performance improvement with Bilstein on Skyline.
I put a set of second hand ones on my R32 GTS25, with Kings low - the best thing I've done to my car, it's like on a rail now.
