« on: March 15, 2002, 04:18:45 AM »
I have $17,000 - $19,000 to spend on an R33 GTST 5 speed.  I have one lined up at the moment for $17,000 just complied but it is STOCK standard with 78,000kms.  Does anyone have anything that I would be interested in? Im in QLD.

Thanks.

YES I am very happy..

The Manuals in the V8's are a bit of a bastard around town and they are geared to high.

If you drop the gear ratio's in the diff to around the 3.45 mark then they would be nice to drive. i.e riding the clutch.. and my ol' VS was quite gutless under 3000rpm then it would take off and wheel spin but under that it feels worse and takes longer to get to its power band than the Skyline does..

I was getting tyred of the Commodore as it would cost to much to get it going quick and the fuel consumption was high where as with the skyline for $40 I get 470km's every time.. $40 is what it costs to fill the R32's..

umm.. Yer the Skylines are better to drive overall.

Test drive both a R33 and a R32.. I liked the R32 due to it was a little cheaper and more throwable through the corners..

I do miss the sweet sound of a V8 with a 3" but..

Yes thats true you cant beat the rumble of a V8.

I have been reading some power figures of the R33 and R32, i would have to admit im not entirley impressed.  My V8 gets 130 RWKW with the new Unichip and a 2 1/2 cat back exhaust with 3" muffler.  The question is: am i going to feel a big increase in power from an R33 GTST?

I have been in both a VS SS and a nice R33 GTST and all I can say is WOW, if you get a pod filter & exhaust done on the skyline it can be a nasty car :).......
They dont look to powerfull but wait until u drive one, or get a ride in one of the SDU guys cars....
The power band (boost range) u can deffinately feel as the boost kicks in and all hell breaks loose, Plus try driving at the same speed through a corner in the SS as in the straight, I guarantee that the skyline is better balanced and able to take corners at higher speeds.

Trust me you'll never look back.... stuff the V8 I cant wait to buy myself a R33 gtst

Cheers BOOSTA

Its like they say, you'll never know untill u drive it

Mate 130rwkw is nuthin. A stock GTS-T will get around 140rwkw. And you could get a stock R33 gts-t for around 17k. For about 19 or 20k, you could get one with exhaust, pod filter, maybe boost controller, and maybe a bigger intercooler. Which could put out 150 - 160rwkw.
I imported my R33 for 20k, and it had intercooler, exhaust + dump pipe, pod filter, boost controller, suspension, wheels.... etc. All ive dont, is put a heavy duty clutch and the Apexi S-AFC in it, and i have close to 180rwkw.
Plus turbo sixes will always have a better fuel consumption that a V8.

2fardown...

My R32 GTS-T Dead Stock Got 125rwkw..

No Exhaust, No Unichip, No Pod Filter.

With an Exhaust, ECU Tune, Pod Filter and an extra $90 I should get around 160rwkw..

Then there's the Gearing and Most IMPORTANTLY the Power To Weight..

The R32 weighs in close to 1300kg's
The R33 weighs in close to 1400kg's (but with an extra 27kw on tap)

The R33 is slightly quicker down the quarter than the R32 but they are both in the mid to high 14's and thats stock.

Your VS pulling 130rwkw lugging around almost 1500kgs would be pulling close to a 15.5 and if your lucky maybe a flat 15.

Then there's the fuel consumption..
Then there's the Brakes..
Then there's the handling..

And it doesn't cost to much to get her in to the high 12's flat 13's.
Without having to rebuild the motor.
As The RB motors can easily handle 400hp every day.
With excellent fuel consumption and drivability.
Sure the Solid noisy cam in a V8 might be able to get close but it wont be an every day driver.

The GenIII 5.7 is a total different story but, as 170rwkw is easily done just with an exhaust.

The 300kw (400hp) GTS Commodore for 100k pulls a mid 13.
Slap 400ph in a Skyline and if you have wide tyres you will be looking at the 12's.

enuf dribbling from me....

Why go so far as 12s throw $15K at Sub zero on the gold Coast and they put in the 10s :D
Too boost or not to boost. That is the question???
