S14 RB25DET Engine mounting
« on: April 28, 2010, 03:22:02 PM »
Hey Guys
This has probably been covered before but I cant seem to find any info on here.

I am thinking about buying an s14 silvia and eventually re-powering it with an RB25DET. and I am curious to know whether there is any kits available in nz to make bolting the engine in easier I have seen that in the us there is a syko performance, mounting kit which make the surgery a lot more easier its just a matter of bolting it in. are there similar kits available in nz? if not where is a good place to get the fabrication done? when I eventually do the re-power so it makes the conversion as painless as possible.
Any help would be appreciated

Cheers. Lance

I could be wrong but isnt an RB cross member used? I am pretty sure it is in the S13 at least.... So anyone know if the S13 and S14 cross member is interchangable? Good ol' Nissan, its just like Lego!

c34 and c35 laurel crossmember could fit as s14 and s15 suspension is the same. I'm not 100% sure tho but if anyone has the crossmembers measurements for a s14 I could compare the measurements with my c35

Yea from my research I have found out that you use the R33 crossmember and you can use the stock RB mounts but the engine sits a bit to high and forward a lot more than if you use custom mounts so thats where i found out about the syko performance mounting kit that is available in the USA but that would be rather expensive 2 get shipped to nz so thats why i was wondering about whether nz has a similar kit.
heres a link to a site which explains how its done with the syko mount kit:

http://www.superstreetonline.com/techarticles/130_0703_sr20_rb25det_swap/index.html

I dont no why this isnt done more often in S14s its seems like a awsum alternative to the SR20DET conversion.
So yea my question still stands. :D

Ahh yes, too far forward would definitely cause some handling issues! Surely an engineer could fabricate/modify something to make it sit back a bit. Its just got to be well done to pass cert.
To remove the height issue, get a front facing plenum :) Or look into custom engine mounts, Nolathane do custom mounts I think.... Maybe use your mounts but get them made to half the height, just an idea

Oh kool that makes it a lot easier than custom mounting does it still handle good with the R33 mounts and crossmember not adverse effects? cause when i do it i still want to daily drive it thats my ultimate goal

kool kool I should imagine it would. For me as long as it will be daily drivable  il be happy. Was there anything that you had to customize like gearbox mounting ?
