Totally agree with Lith, but just to be fair on both sides, you have to admit they arent to cheap at the drags. It'll cost you a fortune and they put you up against the quickest bloody drag cars, plus its impossible to gain traction on the quater-mile! even drifting costs a fortune nowdays and they dont have track days as often as "law-abiders" want them. The only reason I attend the drag meets is to see other peoples cars and meet up with like-minded people. I have to admit though, there probably hasnt been one where someones turned up and popped a skid or gone well over the speed limit.

Costs less than a speeding ticket, much less a dangerous driving fine, and far less inconvenient.  There are different classes and you NEVER get paired against the fastest drag cars, and the racing is typically structured such that its not a problem anyway.  I have no idea what you mean about traction on the 1/4 mile, I've been racing for years and I suspect I have more power than most of the things that show up at Thursday nights (please don't call them drags, the drags are what happens at Masterton).

I didn't mind the old meet ups where there weren't people drinking, abusing each other and just talked but the atmosphere was a bit hostile imho.  This is why we are having a kosher SDU meet, so we can meet up - check out cars, talk a bit and go and get a feed without any worry of anyone being stupid around us or our cars etc.

I've driven along the Hutt motorway on a Thursday night and been genuinely worried about my car due to things flying past way quicker than me (me doing 100kph) and cutting as close as they could, one of the things that is a problem is both cops and monkeys with cars can confuse you with people actually keen on doing that.

You never know who is going to do something stupid and this is one of the biggest risks of these things, you could be there just minding your own business chatting etc - or you could even be someone driving past and someone could be on a mission trying to keep up with an EVO and paying attention to nothing else and suddenly said goober clips someone, loses control and ruins a whole pile of peoples days.

This has happened plenty of times in NZ in recent days, and its only a matter of time before someone dies at Melling - and don't assume its not going to be you or someone close to you.  Not a dig at you at all, just a reality check as it seems like you're not looking at it with that angle in mind.

If your serious about having a go at Drifting, we have Slipway facility which is very drift friendly, get some of your mates together and call Ben Watson to see what he can do for you. If you can't get enough people I'm sure Ben would be able to get a few more there to make it all viable. Keep an eye out

Drags are at Masterton Motoplex and are a good opportunity to prove what your car can do with a timing slip.
