Leight weight yet wide wheels??
« on: September 06, 2011, 12:48:46 AM »
Hi There Guys and Gaaals, Looking for some new wheels for my r32.
Im after something leight weight, yet still have that staunch agressive
look sitting under the guard, so wanting either 17x9.5 or 10.
Was thinking about Rota Grids, Or something similliar. dont want to spend over 1700 if thats possible.

Cheers . :P.

On that budget, you're not going to get much which are both.. Kinda limiting yourself to one or the other unless you're willing to fork out for the real deal.

I would double your budget if you're looking at wide + lightweight.

Options? Don't worry about the weight as it makes almost no difference to a car unless it's a full blown track weapon. I went from some 16x7 Black Racing Pro N1s (which were lighter than my old Buddy Club 15x7s on my Integra) to "heavy" Wolf SP1s in 18x10 on the rear. Noticed no difference.

Second hand wide wheels are slowly becoming more expensive as this trend of low, wide and low offset slammed RWD cars is picking up. If you want to stick to budget, look at Rotas, Wolfs, DTMs, they're all reasonably good quality wheels and do the sort of width/offset you want. Which will give you the look you want. But don't expect them to be TE37SL light weight.

Unsprung weight is important for any car. The best value for money is genuine R32 GTR rims - there are about 3 sets on TradeMe at the moment. They are only 8inches wide but they are forged (very strong) and lightweight. I don't know why people buy 9 or 10 inch wide wheels anyway if they  are only going to put 8in tyres on them.
