help please! brake lights/indicators gone!
« on: February 25, 2014, 06:10:52 PM »
Hi guys.

so I have a brain like a rock, and simply dont understand wiring.

what I kind of get is that this all may be on a supply circuit, with a fail safe like a fuse.

however, I have checked all fuses in engine bay, and under dash. Of which all are ok

I dont really understand what a "relay" does.

Hope someone can help before my next scruiteneering.

Thanks in advance.

mark.

By the way its a cefiro a31.

Is it all your indicators (including the ones on the instrument panel), or just the rear ones? Do your hazard lights work?

Funny you say that the instrument panel indicators don't work and my hazard switch stuffed out recently. is that  all part of the problem possibly?

Often a faulty hazard light switch can cause problems with the indicator circuit. It shouldn't affect the brake lights though, unless hazard and brake lights share a fuse in an A31?

A relay is a switch where a small current controls a bigger one. The things which plug into your fuse box that aren't fuses are relays. If they are labeled try swapping around similar sized ones and if that get you going you need a new relay. There may be more relays under your dash or behind the kick panels - not really familiar with Cefiros.

Be aware that hazard light and indicator "relays" are completely different to regular relays. They just use the current flowing through them to automatically open/close contacts, causing the lights to flash. They won't be interchangeable though, as they'll have either 2 or 3 pins, whereas a regular relay will usually have 4 or 5 pins.
