R32 GTR diff help
« on: April 12, 2014, 03:53:41 PM »
So my C33 laurey has an open diff and r180 subframe. This
no good and want to upgrade. My question is instead of doing the typical gtst VLSD swap is it possible to fit a R32 GTR diff? Iv done some research and people say they are a 2 way diff is this right? Also woulf it ne possible to convert the rear to gtr 5stud using thr whole subframe? cheers

You'll find that the GTR subframe has HICAS and is incompatible with the non-HICAS Laurels. You could swap in an R200 subframe from any Skyline as long as it doesn't have HICAS. Although I remember seeing somewhere that someone managed to fit an R200 diff in an R180 subframe.

With using the 2-way diff, you'll have to look into your bolt pattern for the axles i think, maybe even look into different rear axles, but everything else should be bolt in with the right subframe.

Hicas doesn't have anything to do with anything on that, it will still bolt in fine. You'll just have to run a lockbar. And as long as your r180 subframe is a c33/a31/s13/r32 one a r200 will fit cause they are drilled for both, you just need to put the 4 bolt rear housing on it.

And yep the gtr diff is 2 way but the are 6x1 bolt pattern for the axles so you need to run gtr/gts4/z32 twin turbo rear axles and hubs

Awsome thanks for all that info mate. so does that mean by putting the axles and hubs on the rear would be 5 stud and i could use the gtr brake set up?

Haha, I agree with you there. But one bonus is you don't have to get adjustable rear toe arms cause it already has lots of adjustment

Does the fact that my C33 NON-ABS affect this at all? Not sure how many R32 GTRs came with ABS

Nah, all r32 gtr's came with abs except for the n1. They have the abs rings on the stub axles on the diff so it won't affect anything. You will need to change the flange on the diff to a four bolt one to match your driveshaft

You can use a Stagea subframe. I have the 4.1 2way LSD diff head, 6x1 half shafts and brakes from an R32 GTR in my Stagea (no HiCas). Had to swap the abs rings over to suit the Stagea ABS/Atessa but if you're not running either it won't be a problem.

Actually you have to watch the half shaft lengths. I bought about 5:    GTS-4, Z32 and GTR ones - not sure which were used in the end but some look like they fit but are in fact a fraction too short (also different L and R)

Cheers for the info. How difficult is it to change the flange to suit the driveshaft?
