General Performance / R32 plug identification needed
« on: April 06, 2018, 08:48:34 PM »
Hi guys,
I've butchered the loom everywhere over the long period of time and now I can't remember what this particular plug is for.

It's at the back end of the coil (and injector) loom, 2 pin (|- style) connector. I think I have everything else hooked up, except for col air regulator valve which sits in the middle of intake manifold but I ditched it long ago.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Audio, Security and Electrical / how do you remove pins from connectors?
« on: November 05, 2017, 08:00:42 AM »
Hi all,
I made a bit of mess while de-cluttering wiring - I cut a wrong wire going to the back of the big square connector (behind and up the interior fusebox/relay). And I cut it flush to the back of the connector so I can't splice to the wire either.
What I want to do is to pull the pin out and recrimp (or something) to the mistakenly cut wire.
Unfortunately I'm having trouble pulling the pin out - with connectors with larger pins used elsewhere, I have poke the little tab (which keeps the pin locked in the plastic connector housing) and pulled the pin out but that technique has failed me so far.
Can anyone help me out?
Cheers

General Performance / Radiator & fan gap
« on: September 21, 2017, 08:13:06 AM »
Hi all,
I noticed there is around 45mm (give or take 5mm) gap between the back of the radiator and the fan and I'm wondering if I can pull back the radiator closer to the fan so I can have some room for intercooler pipes.
Does anyone have ideas what effect that will have to 1) cooling efficiency and 2) whether there will be interference when the fan is spinning at max rev and 3) any other issues?
Cheers

Audio, Security and Electrical / Help needed identifying this part
« on: September 06, 2017, 09:29:22 PM »
This thing is buried under the fuse/relay box in the engine bay - anyone know what it is for?
It's R32 GTS25.
Pictures are here (now I don't have Photobucket)

Off-Topic / DIY workshop space with 4 post hoist
« on: July 23, 2017, 10:34:27 AM »
Hi guys,
I vaguely remember reading about a DIY workshop where covered workshop space with facilities such as hoists and such are made available for hourly price, possibly here or facebook.
Does anyone know about it?
I need a 4 poster to check a few things on my car (not a Skyline though - which is semi-permanently sitting in the garage).

Forced Induction / RB20DET forward facing plenum
« on: March 07, 2017, 09:29:00 PM »
Anyone has experience/review to share regarding RB20DET forward facing plenum currently on the market?
I see there are a few vendors on TradeMe but not sure if they are from the same source (looks very much alike).

Audio, Security and Electrical / tidying up wiring looms - R32
« on: January 23, 2017, 12:17:01 PM »
I'm doing the weight reduction process and going through tidying up the wiring looms - a lot of wires can be culled when you don't have a/c, heater, stereo etc etc.
What would be the simplest way to do this? Basically the only wiring I'm interested in keeping is whatever necessary to run the engine. Can I ditch the whole bundle from the RHS of the car? It's been a bit of pain as I don't have a decent wiring diagram (the GTR one is better than nothing but really hard to see the wire colours etc)

Maintenance & Car Care / heater bypass ideas
« on: November 26, 2016, 10:42:03 PM »
I'm going to ditch the heater and bypass it somehow with maybe 180 tube bend with beads.
Anyone know where I can get something like that or have one made (cheaply of course)?
I think I can do the loop where the heater matrix joins the heater hoses (at the bulkhead) or on the intake side.

ok i'm stripping the interiors and found the only area that hasn't cooked brittle is this white adhesive which is holding clear plastic sheet on the door interior. Obviously it would have been helpful to remove it if it was nice and hard - but no.. it probably just as fresh and flexible as the day it left the factory. I tried with scrapper and MEK & meth but the sticky residue is still there.
anyone can give me some tips?

General Performance / stalling with instrument panel off
« on: October 19, 2016, 06:56:59 AM »
took the dash off and all that including instrument panel now it has a tendency of stalling (more than usual) - obviously I can't tell if the rev s dropping cos tacho is out.
has anyone come across that or maybe i disturbed something else while taking the dash out?

Maintenance & Car Care / How much noisier without interiors?
« on: October 08, 2016, 07:04:53 AM »
Hi all,
Just wondering how much noisier it is going to be without all the interior trims, door cards, headlining and the carpets (+any sound deading mats etc)?
Is it just a matter of increased noise level or does it actually introduce droning (which would be a real pain)?
cheers

General Performance / does anyone here weld diff centre?
« on: July 09, 2016, 07:28:08 PM »
I'm in Auckland and I have a spare (maybe a couple) of R200 diff centres so I'm thinking I'll get them welded for skid fun.

Maintenance & Car Care / R32 - Interior Temperature Sensor
« on: March 30, 2016, 06:08:21 AM »
I was clearing out the car and the garage and pulled out the little sensor behind the wee grill at the bottom right corner of the centre console and chucked it out the bin. A big mistake - driving to work this morning and I wondered why the air coming our of the vents are so hot and it hit me (well, it happened before, except then I didn't bin it - it was rubbish day yesterday so no going back now).
So the question is, now the sensor is not there and the circuit is incomplete, i.e. sensor would be showing resistance of infinite. From this I gather high resistance = hot air temp coming out of heater mixer and perhaps (hopefully) low resistance = cold air.
Would I be able to hook up a toggle switch just to make and break the circuit (0 resistance & infinite resistance) depending on when I want cold air or hot air?
I don't use intermediate temperature settings - never have on any of the cars I've had. The car doesn't have A/C any more anyway (which was the reason I thought the temperature sensor would be redundant).
Cheers,
Sam
