Well, I have a lot of thoughts on this issue!
Nuclear power: I am not totally against it, but from a purely technical perspective, NZ does not have the requirement for Nuclear power. Unlike other forms of generation, nuclear power cannot be turned off. It assumes that you will always have a requirement for the full amount produced. In the states the solve this problem by linking power grids between the states, always giving the power a use. In NZ, we dont have the requirement for a large amounts of power (which nuclear generates), and we dont have a constant supply requirement. I am much more in favour of tidal generation. Seems like a cost effective, environmentally friendly, and non-eyesore solution, as we can place these generators close to the requirement. We can add more in time as required to meet new demand. I am yet to hear any reasoning why they are not such a good idea... would like some informed debate on them though.
In terms of America, we need trade to get rid of our deficits... but we sure as hell do not need to side with the "with me or against me" bollixs that the Bush adminstration has become. Get rid of Bush, and suddenly we will want more to do with America, provided he is replaced with a more socialistic (I cant believe I just said that!) party / president. America need to stop complaining about the splinter in my eye, when they have a log in theirs.
I cant understand why we choose to side ourselves with China however, America's wrongdoings are very obvious, and very reported. China however, is no better. America - terrorise the Arab nations / oil nations. China terrorise their own people in search of country growth.
Both countries are technically trying to improve the nations wealth and position in the world, or they are trying to make $$$$billions for a select number of people... depends which side of the fence you are.
