A new purpose built rally road we have here in Tauranga. It's up in the TECT All Terrain Park behind Tauranga. Got Off-roader courses, Motorbike trails, RC car club, shooting, even a place for stupid horsey people.

Anyway, heres our road:

National Hillclimb Series
« Reply #466 on: December 08, 2011, 10:14:53 AM »
Round one of the three round series was held in Gisborne on the weekend just gone.
Day one was tarmac and day two was the best damn gravel hillclimb road in NZ at the moment! 5.5km all uphill on an awsome country station road with quite a view, not that I was looking at the drop.
Chewed out two sets of worn rears on the gravel, will be back next year with new sets to give it heaps. As it was, I don't think I could have got the big Skyline up the hill much faster with the tyres I had.

I'm currently 2nd in the 2WD category and bet a couple of 4WD's. Hoping for a bigger turnout at the next round in February near Hamilton.
Enjoy the video's.

Umm... been doing really good... Currently leading the BOP champ's at the mo, though the car is now parked in disgrace at the back of my garage...

After 6 years of racing the RB20 finally cried enough. Nipped up the bearings at 8,600rpm we think. Went from full noise to locked rear wheels in a second and right up to then it was going strong.
Here's proof. Turn the sound up and you can hear where it stops at the end of the video. No bang, just stops. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYfRZks7grY&feature=plcp
This was the practice run. Had I done one timed run I could have won the BOP Hillclimb challenge 2WD class that I was leading at the time.

Oh well, it's parked up for the summer and I'll just be cruising the beaches in my '66 Holden instead. We will rebuild and it will be better, stronger, faster... and of course still a 2.0 and and N/A.

really good to hear you were doing so well and very sorry to hear about the engine dying, Any special plans for the future rebuild?

Same again, just more compression and balancing. Think my issue started from the clutch tweaking itself and unbalancing everything from back there. Damn turbo Skyline paddle clutches can't hang onto the N/A.

Are you still running that light toda flywheel? might be that instead of the clutch plate.

Yes still have the Toda flywheel. That is balanced fine. What is happening is I'm tweaking the clutch off center by bending the tabs that mount it. We beefed these up previously, but it still bends them when the clutch grabs on big downshifts.
I've been pushing it pretty hard on the tarmac to get the results and it's hurting the clutch. I need to rev match on the downshifts, but my pedal box can't mount in such a position to do that. We're going to go back to a conventional heavy duty turbo plate clutch to get some more slip going on, rather than the bite of the paddle clutch. (and I need to be more gentle with it)
