Love 'em as a race/rallycar, hate them as a road car. Especially the annoying bridgeport pulse poorly tuned, or when they strangle them through the standard 4 barrel carb with mechanical secondaries. baaaarrrrp - pap -pap BARRRRRPP. Hate that!

There is very little better than a strong N/A rotary at 11,000rpm.
Third car @ 30sec. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkGACTgfZVk Dad's 12a Peripheral port.

If you know how to look after rotary they will last. The rallycar engine has done 2.5 years of competition with no issues, and that is a heavily ported high revving motor. Back in the day the old fulla had an RX3 12a that didn't miss a beat for 350,000km. It's only wankers that kill them, like most motors.

I think they're a great piece of engineering. when built properly they can take some abuse.
i always think of the 13b as a 1300cc motor. i dont see why some people are so negative, compare the motor to something like a 4k. in that error the motors where more than capable.
Its all personal preference on what motor to transplant or how loud we want our car. the whole reason me modify our cars to make them our own style.

here you go a 13b s14a sounds like a gun fight in Iraq

no offense to poster but that has got to be the most god aweful sound ive ever heard from a car lol. that is what i hate about rotaries. its the loud obnoxious ones that i dont like. but that seems to be most of them.

im all for it. and i applaud mazda for persisting with and refining the concept.
and if you were so worried about efficiency, you should be driving an rd not sr or rb. :D
i do agree that the noise s over the top, but i think its the people just doing it for the sake of loud noise (having said that, that isn't limited to rotary drivers)

i think the engine is too small. 1.3 ffs! They need to make it at least 4 rotors from factory plus a single turbo. Then it will be a serious engine in my book. But i like the concept of it, i just wish the Americans would give rotaries a go and sell them as crate engines, then we would definitely see proper sized rotaries coming out.

Correct, RX-8's are still twin rotor, around 1300cc in capacity and n/a. Top spec produces the same power as a stock 13b turbo RX-7.
There are a couple of quad rotors in NZ producing in excess of 600hp n/a. That's nothing to sniff at.

they arent obnoxious. they are loud for a reason.
think of it as the difference between me having 2 resonators in my exhaust and somebody not wanting to run any mufflers at all. i can hear my exhaust and my car still sounds good. but a lot of rotary owners just want to make them as loud as possible and its for no good reason except theyre trying to be loud and obnoxious.
