R33 Build
« on: April 10, 2011, 09:49:44 PM »
hi guys, been meaning to do a bit of a build thred (if you could call it a build haha).
r33 gts25t auto (for now haha) non ABS model, strait off the boat with only 67000ks on the clock, it was in awesome condition.
so this is the car as i bought it:

completely stock standard.
seeing as it was visually offensive, i did some shopping the weekend after i bought it.
Alarm, Tintz and wheels were at the top of my list. i also grounded the boost solenoid to give me 7psi all the time.

and new clarion sound system:

drove it round like this for a few months, and got sick of the 4wd type clearance between the guards and the tyres. so i bought me a set of kyb shocks and king springs off trademe for 400 bux

this was alot better. firm but not uncomfortable. although i have never been happy with the height at the front of the car.
So while looking for more bargains on trademe, i found a 3" catback 5zigen exhaust for sale, offered the guy a cheeky 200 bux, and guess what he said yup. i was stoked heres a pic of what the muffler looks like:

We had to go to Taranaki for my girlfriends nannas 70th, and this happend on the way down there:

it was my front right tyre on a 90km/hr blind left hander with no shoulder. very scary, as i was all over the road trying to stop without locking up the tyres. As you could imagine i was not a happy chappy, considering the tyres i just bought tried to kill me lol. So i had a very angry call to the store were i bought them to tell them they better send some tyres down for me to get back to hamilton that coming monday. and they did come through with the goods.
also whilst on my journey to Taranaki, i noticed misfiring under load. so when i got back to hamilton i purchased some new plugs and gapped them down to 0.8mm. this unfortunately didnt help. so i bought one of these to help diagnose which was around 120 nzd landed:

very good tool to have , which now shows an ignition fault. i put this down to the common coil pack failure. which led to my next purchase of $450, which fixed the problem :):

Big thanks to GETLOW for the wicked price and prompt delivery.

So my fuel consumption was always bad, i used a full tank of gas when i went to Taranaki which is 240km. thats over 22l/100km! this led to my next investment, a new o2 sensor 150nzd landed (http://www.kudosmotorsports.com/catalog/ngkntk-sensor-lambda-oxygen-ntk-nissan-skyline-r33-gts25-gts4-gts25t-rb25de-rb25det-p-1023.html:)

this by far was the best 150 bux i have spent, my next trip to taranaki, i literally halved my fuel consumption!
in the past few months i have been buying parts for under the bonnet.
i got a strut brace off trade me for $30 (which is now black):

new rb20 rocker covers ($20), which i painted and put in push in -10AN fittings (50 nzd landed):

cam cover ($15) which i also painted black and an rb20det actuator ($40) also painted black:

catch can/washer bottle ($60) which will be painted black and some new jamex super-low springs for the front ($30):

so this is really where the car is at for now. the things next on my list are:
FMIC - think i might get the HDI kit
greddy type plenum - not too warried which one as it will be paited/powder coated
MANUAL GEARBOX!!! - in the next few months, fingers crossed haha

i was supposed to be putting the jamex springs in on the weekend, but didnt get round to it. when i put them in ill have the front king springs spare, so if anyone on here wants them they are free to a good home :)

today i installed the jamex springs in the front. and i removed the carbon canister and all associated parts (theres actually quite a bit).

i put it on the scales, and its about 1.17kgs all up!
just went for a ride round the block and decided i hate the jamex springs, way too soft for my liking. so tomorrow they will be coming out and the king springs back in tomorrow haha. anyone want a free pair (front) of jamex springs???????????
