HR30 mixture adjustment
« on: May 06, 2011, 09:04:41 PM »
I'm told that you can make small changes to AFR on EFI L series engines by adjusting a screw on the AFM, is this true? If so, where is the screw located? Want to lean mine out a little as its fair belching out black smoke under load.

rightyo.. That screw is for idle adjustment only.

You can adjust the tension on the AFM flap. Take offthe black cover. Mark where the locking tab is on the dial. Tighten the adjustment by turning the coged wheel.

Go 4-5 clicks only at a time, This will lean out the mixtures. You might find it has a ET afm fitted and its the wrong setting. Usually tho with the l20et, 3500-4000rpm onwards the afm is fully open and on a pre map.

I have noticed the car sounds different and picks up a lot more around 3500-4000rpm... hmmm...

Yup, afm flap will be fully open. Causing it to go onto the programed map.

So tighten that adjustment to tweak the low end fueling.

I did it on the l20et quite well. Had 270cc injectors, ran 24-28deg timing etc.

Got some good low down torque on that also.

Any idea where stock timing should be on L20E? Wouldn't mind giving everything a tickle up at once.
