VQ35 Information/advice
« on: October 12, 2012, 10:12:30 PM »
So my wife wants my 300GT soooo we will sell her RS Four Stagea .
And Im wanting a manual and I can buy anything I want so long as its a sedan so I been looking at the 2005 350GT Sedan. Test drove 1 last weekend and it was sweet as to drive.

Anyway I'm curious to see if anyone  has done any upgrades to such a beast and if so  what and who did the fabrication or was it an off the shelf import part.

I plan to do full exhaust incl headers as well as intake but can the factory ecu be flashed or would I need a a/m ecu.if it is reflashable whom would be best in the  waikato/ auckland area.

Also will 350z suspension work or will I be looking at a/m suspension all round?

I have been looking online at headers and exhausts but they mostly are described as G35 parts which I'm not sure if they compatable.I did pop into Sinco today but they have never fabricated anything for 350 but was enthusiastic to give it a crack if I could get  them some info.
Anyway give me what you got and all is appreciated

Cheers

Very few people in NZ or Aus modifying these. The man to speak to here is Soichi - he is the only one with the gear to tune the ecus but I don't know if it covers your one. If not he can fit an HKS F-Con to make it tunable. In the US a lot of G35 stuff may fit but you would need to double check first.

Dodson Motorsport tuned a 350Z (VQ35DE engine) with HKS turbo bolt on kit, HKS Fcon Vpro, etc -

Same engine, similar chassis.

Try z35, G35, V35 and M35, most parts are very similar or the same re engine, trans, front suspension, interior, rims, exhaust etc, trusty ol' Nissan interchange.

Apparently they are reflashable however ST suggested a HKS f-con Pro to allow for finer tuning . Just gotta wait for the car to arrive from Japan and then go from there. Will update when it arrives .

STM can too, I believe.

Stock ECU can pull ignition timing, inject more fuel, etc if it detects knock (or false knock like something banging against engine) which can screw up a tune. If knock control is not disabled on stock ECU, I wouldn't use a piggyback ECU like Fcon, etc.

Only thing Fcon can give you that is better, is MAP sensor and maybe a few other things. But with those stock ECU's, if like R35GTR stock ECU, it should be able to run MAP sensor, IAT sensor, etc (it's an aftermarket option for R35GTR).

Just look at all the options before you decide.

My uncle has a 250GT with a custom exhaust, i think he said it was 2 1/4 to factory cat (they have to retain them for legal reasons) then twin 2 1/2 pipes to after mufflers but it sure has a nice v6 rumble and using stock headers. So yours should be real nice :D

And as for the reflash/after market ecu, its not a over the top mod so wouldnt the ecu adjust to suit anyway or do you plan to tune it for more power?

The 350GT has the VQ35DE which can be tuned using Uprev software which STM in wellington offer. Soichi also has a pack for tuning this engine but I'm unsure of all the details. If the part is for the 2003 -2005 G35 sedan it will fit your car. Exhausts headers sway bars and strut bars will fit.

F Con Pro is a stand alone computer and used by the Aussies getting 300kw and more from their M35 Stageas:

You are correct, doesn't say "piggyback" at top, so one would assume it's a standalone ECU. But it does say "correction" of fuel and ignition under "function". So it has to correct something (fuel, ignition signals from ECU).

What someone else said on here (who had one on his car), that it can run in standalone or piggyback mode. He said get better fuel economy in piggyback mode.

Also you can make it work by using workarounds, but just saying that without disabling ECU knock control you won't get a good tune (something to note).

This is what it would do in piggyback mode (scroll to bottom and has "piggyback" mentioned at the top which the pro doesn't) -

It's not the pro version, but similar thing.
