How to clean Air flow sensor - Easy as!
« on: July 23, 2013, 06:01:23 PM »
So replacing the panel filter in the Cefiro and decided to pick up some MAF cleaner, $20 from Super cheap but I've "heard" you can use carby cleaner don't take my word for it though! Anyway the can says it adds 4-10hp so it must be true lol but most our cars will have over 100,000kms so it doesn't hurt to clean once and a while.

Tools you'll need:
10mm socket - Bolts on airbox
8mm socket - Hose clamp
MAF sensor cleaner

Before I start just like to point out this will work on any car running a MAF usually EFI engines so not just RBs.

Step 1: Locate the bolts on the MAF connected to the airbox (Red arrows) use the 10mm to undo them

Step 2: Use the 8mm to loosen the hose clamps (blue arrows)

Step 3: Unplug the grey plug on the side of the unit then carefully pull the unit out of the hose my require some jiggling lol

Step 4: Once its out shake the cleaner and spray 10-15 times (short bursts) from a little distance onto the sensor behind the mesh. Don't over do it

Step 5: Lay the unit down then let it dry

Step 6: Put it all back together!

CO Contact cleaner will also work.  The 4-10HP claim is a bit bold IMO... either way, don't use BrakeKleen!!

Good write up!

I noticed a difference in response after cleaning mine, it had a pretty thick coating of oil over the wire and inside it.

Cheers guys, haha yeah the "4-10hp" is a bit far fetched I think :P also forgot to add but I was doing this to see changes in fuel economy so I reset my ecu after application.
