First time removing and building an engine so progress is slow.. got parts back from Hytech engines (highly recommend, awesome pricing with quick turn around), gave block a quick lick of paint, got stuck into it..

Gave the cam covers a lick of paint with old paint from touching up the old ladies corolla, all I have left to do is throw all the stuff on the front of the engine on and set the timing and I should be good to go, fingers crossed I can get it done before the weekend and have it in the car ON the weekend..

Too rainy. Engine is sitting on subframe with a jack under the subframe, just gotta jack it up into place and lower car down onto subframe then plug everything in and she'll be ready for first start up. Still nervous being my first build. Hoping it doesn't pack a sad first start.

Will be wicked to drive the car again but in manual this time. Can't wait till Friday then it'll be finishing it off and run it in time.

Cheers Looney_Head.  Definitely getting there slowly but surely. Subframe and mounts are all in, started doing everything up now, fuel lines etc. Rained so will continue tomorrow, hopefully have it running on the weekend :D

Can count the things that need doing on one hand now. Just slowly working through it all.

Definitely surprised it's running haha, I would have thought it'd have grenaded itself on first startup. I'm usually one to forget things especially because this is the first time ive ever done any of this before, in saying that, it pissed oil all over driveway from the oil pump gasket (wrong sealant used) which is a pain in the ass but it started first pop and sounded healthy so I'm not complaining. Will sort that out and then finish up the rest of it.

It was in a tube in the garage, indicated that it was for automotive use but the driveway says it's obviously not oil proof. Got a proper gasket from Nissan on the way. Hard lesson learned haha, couldn't think of a worse place

yeah rear main seal and oil pump are probably the worst places to get leaks. at least you have had experience setting the cambelt timing..

Yeah, replaced front seal because of the heat given to crank timing pulley when heating it up to get it off, replaced the rear because it was the "ah might as well" situation. Got pretty much everything I need to get off, all the sump bolts etc just need to drop sump and take last two bolts for oil pump off, throw new gasket in and it'll be reassembly time. Bit of a hiccup but still just glad that's been the only problem. Got a new gearbox mount to chuck in also.
Gets too dark these days not enough play time under the car
